at this point in the process, i am still in the hunt for an appointment so i have to keep sending in stuff to the academy. i was confused as to how it works. this may or may not have been covered in another thread, but i couldn't find it.

i am about to send in my 7th semester transcript, so, will the board look at just my transcript/academics side of my file, or will they look at my file as a whole? i heard that the more you send/update stuff for the academy, the more they look at your file. i am also about to send in a letter i got for cross country this past fall, so will they only look at my athletic portion only? thanks for your help!

I'm starting to wonder the same thing as bigcox...

i am about to send in my 7th semester transcript, so, will the board look at just my transcript/academics side of my file, or will they look at my file as a whole? i heard that the more you send/update stuff for the academy, the more they look at your file.

however, I only sent one transcript near the middle of 1st semester (fortunately my AP calc grade was at its peak then ). Should I send a transcript including the whole first semester just so they will keep reviewing my file? Does that make much of a positive difference?

I'm wondering the same thing...they haven't seen anything of my senior year. When do are you guys sending this semester's grades?

i go back to school tomorrow from christmas (or non-denominational winter celebration) break, and i'm giving our secretary a list of schools to send in my 7th semester grades. it'll take about 2-3 weeks for the transcripts to get to each place.

another question i had was does the academy look at your entire file in march/april? cuz i know that's when the bulk of appointments go out, so it only makes sense to review the files again...

Hmmm, good question. I think what I heard was that the board will review your file (the next board is in January), then give your file a point value. When/if you update your file, they will review it again and recalculate the points. The max times they will review your file is 3 times (maybe 2?)...

So, I think that instead of reviewing all the files in March/April, they give appointments to the candidates that have the highest point value on their file during those months. They wait till March because by then all SAT/ACT scores are in and files are completely complete.

I'm pretty sure this is how it works...

They're probably gonna wait till later in the month. Mid January is what I'm guessing.

USAFA2013: Probably not... I see no reason for them to, unless you "un-did" something on your admissions file.

OK...so i'm thinking of dropping one AP class for next semester...could this hurt me? I have already had AP Chem 1 and 2, AP Calc 1 and 2, AP Bio 1. Next semester I have AP Bio 2 and AP Lit, but I want to drop AP Bio 2...is this something that will hurt my app?

All of the correspondence from the AFA has come from this address

HQ USAFA/RRS
2304 Cadet Dr, Ste 200
USAF Academy CO 80840

Is this the address that I would send letters of recommendation to? I will probably just call my AFA admissions counselor tomorrow, but I thought I would ask here first.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that's the right address. I guess I'll send in my transcript from 1st semester as soon as we go back.... I never would have thought about doing that if I hadn't read this so thanks bigcox.
So the review board will meet towards the middle of this month and appointments will get out by the end of the month then again in March... am I understanding that right?
Thanks

I wish I could send my semester grades now, but it wont be finished until around january 20th. So you are saying I can send them in later, as long as it is within March 1st, and I don't already receive an appointment?

As for first semester transcripts, I believe my counselor said that the Academy would request it... Probably wouldn't hurt to be proactive and send one in when available though. Semester doesn't end until the end of next week for me, and it'll probably take another week or two until a transcript would be ready.

bulldog: Not necessarily... Some will go out by the end of this month. They wait till March to send out most appointments because by then all the files will be absolutely complete, this way they can make sure they appoint the candidates that are the most qualified.

TxMan: I don't think so. Your candidate file must be completely done by January 31st, except for your SAT/ACT scores. You have till February 15th to get those into the academy. This is why they wait till March to give out most appointments.

And yes, the academy will request that ALL senior year grades will eventually have to be sent into the academy. Second semester grades only if you obtain an appointment though.

Quick question...

I am a four year cross country runner and presumably a four year track runner. The AFA knows about these sports. In addition, I have completed seven half-marathons over the past three years, with pretty respectable times. Would the AFA care to know that... i.e. is it worth sending in as part of a resume update?

If you go to the falcons athletics website; you can look at the different sports. I can't say I looked at ALL of them; but some; like football; has a sports Information card to fill out and send to the academy. It may even be totally online now. Can't remember. It's where you can talk about your athletics. It doesn't go to admissions, it goes to the coaches and athletic department. later... mike.....

Christcorp, are you suggesting that I submit an application for athletic recruitment? My 5k pr is 17:37, which I imagine is more than a minute slow to be considered for a spot on the cross country team. I was hoping that the HMs might help the Athletic/EC portion of the admissions application.

The way I see it; there are 2 options in the world.

1) You DON'T submit it and you DEFINITELY aren't noticed

2) You DO submit it and you have a SLIGHT chance; however small; for someone to notice you.

Also; information is shared usually from admissions to athletics. So if you want to send it to admissions also, it sure can't hurt. Our state is one of those that most people don't even know exists. However; my son's ALO was very aware of his athletic capabilities. She and the district/state ALO head honcho would email the coaches links to newspaper clippings of game results, scores, achievements, etc... By the time my son received his appointment in November, the coaches also asked him if he wanted to be on the team. Now granted; academy IC is different in the respect that they don't give out athletic scholarships. Which means they can recruit 50 players where a traditional school giving out scholarships would only give out say 18. But it gets his foot in the door. Whether they keep him or cut him come spring training; at least he had a chance.

So yes; why not fill out the form. It sure couldn't hurt anything. And also send it to admissions. Also let your ALO become aware of it. This is not the time to be humble. Let everyone know of all your accomplishments. later.... mike...
