Upload documents?

Hi everyone,

I apologize in advance if I rain on any parades.
I recently saw a post by the West Point Admissions page:

"For Candidates currently applying for the Class of 2017 -
NEW Candidate Forms Upload Feature!
A new feature has been added to the Candidate Portal!
This new feature allows candidates to upload documents to their application file. The following documents are currently available for direct upload into the candidate portal (pdf files preferred):
• Advanced Placement (AP) Scores (if applicable)
• BodyFat Worksheet (if applicable)
• Employer’s Evaluation (optional)
• Legal Paperwork (if applicable)
• Proof of Citizenship (if NOT a U.S. Citizen by birth)
• Letters of Recommendations (other than School Official Evaluations (SOEs))

ONLY candidates who have been Offered or Accepted an appointment to USMA/USMAPS should upload the additional files:
• Social Security Card
• Birth Certificate
• Parent Consent (if NOT 18 years of age by RDay)
Please note that this upload feature does NOT determine or influence a candidate’s file status, it simply allows candidates to better manage their application file.
Please direct any questions concerning a candidate’s file status to the regional admissions officer."

And there you have it. Business As Usual. Leaps To All Kinds of Conclusions Not Required.

It does appear you need to be admissable though; I currently do not have a nomination and I don't have those options yet.

My son has an LOE but no nominations and does NOT have those document uploads either. So far he is NOT admissible either.

My DS has a LOE and a nom, but no tab yet. I suppose (maybe hope is the better word), that the tab will show up sooner rather than later.

Need to be admissable?

It does look like the documents you can upload are limited to those which would be needed if one was admissible or had been appointed, although I don't see how the recommendation letters fall into that category. As a hoot you might try a different browser to see if the tab shows up. If you're using something other than IE try IE. If using IE try Firefox, Safari, or Google Chrome if you already have one of them on your system. Not saying it will show up but that it might be a browser bug or the way the tab was implemented. It's sometimes difficult to get these things working on all browsers and since this is a new feature it might be worth a try. (I have absolutely no technical insight into this and no inside knowledge, just relying on my own past experiences with the internet).

For what it's worth, if you recall this summer, the applicaiton portals early opened for some and a month later for others, without any rhyme or reason. Some guessed it was by region, which turned out not to be the case; some guessed SLS attendance, but that also was not the case. My guess is that the presence of the new tab on some but no all LOE's is not indicative of anything other than initial implementation on some with rollout on all occurring over the next few weeks? If you know your candidate is academically and physically and medically qualified & has a nomination and you don't have the tab, you'll likely get it soon.

Tabs

It will be interesting to see if a new round of portals get the "tab" next Tuesday. This will be when admissions meet again.

Portal reorganized

DS portal was also reorganized yesterday.Home page states there is a new tab to upload specified documents but do not see tab on DS portal yet.

I'm sorry, but I find this to be a little ridiculous. I understand everyone is on pins and needles, but a new tab on the portal isn't some sort of secret signal that candidate A is slightly above candidate B. It just means there is a new portal. If you want to know how you rank with others in your area, just ask your admissions officer. They will gladly tell you. If there is any change in your application status, they will tell you VERY clearly on the portal, your admission officer will send you an e-mail and/or West Point will send snail mail. There is no need to get all excited over a new tab when you have no other indication of being accepted. We will all have to wait until February, just like every college kid has had to do for generations. I swear, it sounds like some of you are making conspiracy theories.

Hmmmm...

I didn't bring it up...... But, conspiracy? This is very interesting and plausible.

Let me consult my palm readers tea leaves and I will be back with an answer for all of us!

Just logged on to see the "Upload Documents" tab. I am fully qualified and have received a nomination (don't know if it was principal or not). Has it been determined that the tab is a marker for anything, or has everyone else gotten it?

Field Force Info

On my Field Force website, there was a Dec 12th Update. It said there was a new feature added to the Candidate Portal. It allows candidates to upload documents to their file. What you see on your Candidate Portal seems to be an administrative update. It is too soon for appointments. No rolling admission this year. Most will receive appointment notification around the end of Feb 2013. Of course there are alway exceptions. Good Luck! Exciting times!

Actually in contrast to my post on the last page, I have the tab now. I still do not have a nomination.

All assumption aside, I think this will be very useful and seems to be a nice improvement from snail mail.

DD Has LOE and 2 noms. Has the "upload" tab now too. Does not say appointment on the Nominations tab. Looking for the good news! When is the next Tuesday meeting. Most likely in a few weeks? Merry Christmas to all!

I do not want to ruin anyone's Christmas, but you should not make any conclusions about what may or may not appear on the portal. The "Upload documents" is a new feature that is probably still in the "get it right" stage fror the software people.

If you have a P-nomination and West Point says officially in writing that you are 3Qd, it is probably just a matter of time before you get an official offer.

LET ME MAKE THIS CLEAR

When you get an official offer it will be VERY CLEAR. You will get a formal letter clearly offering you admission. If you do not have this very definitive letter, you do not yet have an offer. However, in some cases West Point will notify your Congressman so he can give you the good news. In this case the official letter will arrive very soon afterwards.

Do not engage in wishful thinking because of something on your portal-that just sets you up for an possible disappointment.

BigNick, if the MOC does not rank candidates, will the most competitive candidate in the district with a 3Q hear back soon or will he/she have to wait until late February/early March like the other candidates?

If you have a 3Q and are the P-nominee you are probably in - however, I am told that it will still be about 26 Feb before you get anything official. Is is possible that the 3Q P-nominations will hear sooner but I do not think so.
If you are not the P-nominee you will not hear until about 26 Feb.

Remember, if you are not the P-nominee but have a "regular" nomination and are 3Qd, you will go on the National Waiting list along with about 1000 other people and compete (by your Whole Candidate Score) for the 100 to 150 people taken from that list. In short, if you are not the P-nominee you must be a very outstanding candidate to get selected from the NWL. Do everything you can to get higher on that list (new SAT scores, awards, reconitions, new leadership positions etc.)
