WP may not know who is the #1 on a Competitive slate until 26 Feb, when all files must be complete. In years past when there was rolling admission, Competitive slate winners may not have been appointed until after the file deadline, for that reason. So really no different this year. Although, sometimes, the #1 was so far ahead in WCS points than the rest of the slate, they would go ahead and award the appointment.

So keep updating your file for the next 2 months! You want to have the highest WCS points on the Competitive slate. And if not the highest on the slate, you want to have as many WCS points as you can to compete for the appointment off the NWL.

Hunter - to add to the comments of Buff81.

Many MOCs do NOT name a Principle Nominee. They nominate up to 10 people per authorized slot and let West Point decide - in effect - who gets the P-nomination. Normally a MOC has one slot per year but can have 2 slots in a year depending on the number of people he has in WP.

WP is still gathering information on most candidates and will not decide who gets the position or P-Nomination in each Congressional District (that does not name a P-Nomination) until the records are complete in February.

Therefore, being a P-Nominee or having WP declare you the vacancy winner in your District and being 3Qd is very key. These people get offers

Ultimately, about 1,100 candidates (that did not get a P-nomination or declared the District winner by WP) will get a Nomination and be 3Qd. This is the National Waiting List. About 100-150 of these will be offered admission.

I have just been informed that I received my nomination, but along with that information, I was told that my congresswoman opted to only nominate 2 candidates for her two current vacancies at West Point myself and another candidate. However it was indicated to me that I will not be competing against the other candidate, because I have been placed in one of the vacancies and the other candidate in the other. Leaving 1 person each slate. So who is picked for admission to U.S.M.A being that we both are applying from the same congressional district but on two separate slates with no competition due to no other nominees being nominated.

Each MOC can have 5 people in each Service Academy. Therefore in any given year a MOC might have one or two vacancies. Your MOC apparantly had two vacancies this year so each of you have a P-Nomination. You are NOT competing against any other candidate.

If 3Qd you will be given an offer unless some negative information about you surfaces (police report, DUI, school problem, bad grades this semester, etc)

However the liason stated that it was not a P-nomination although it seemed like one. But the system read competitive.
