I’ve been hearing about a path to fly heavies that is straight T-1s instead of T-6. What are your thoughts on that?

I dont think its a good thing and i think you got it backward. They are all doing the T-6, they are getting rid of the T-1. Old System - Everyone starts with the T-6 then they split into the T-38 for fighter/bombers and the T-1 for everything else. The New system is that everyone wings after the T-6. The fighter/bomber pilots move on the T-38 while everyone else just moves to their selected plane. Pilots are graduating UPT with less flight time and just moving the training from the T-1 to the actual plane they are going to learn. Seems crazy to me that they losing that time spent on the T-1 learning to fly a commercial-type plane along with learning how to fly with a crew. Air Force is trying to get more people through the pipeline and most experienced senior pilots will tell you that the newer pilots are coming out with fewer skills. New program emphasis a lot of VR flying which is nice but cant replace time in the air.
