I've had 3 concussions my whole life (I only reported two because the third one I never went to a doctor). However, on Friday I 100% got my fourth concussion. I have yet to see a doctor as I am very afraid that I will get med dq'd because of it. I got an ROTC scholarship, and if I go to the doctor and report this conclusion as my third, will it dq me?

i really feel like I should go as I still feel bad, but don't want to **** this all up just to be told to go home and rest, but I am afraid that I have some subdural hematoma.

Health first, ALWAYS. Then deal with what you have to. You are expected to update DoMERB with changes to your medical history.

You have ONE brain. Take care of it.

Goodness get that checked out….

As someone who has multiple concussions… go to the doctor. Don’t self diagnose. Not sure what the heck you are doing to keep getting concussions, but stop doing it. That means sitting out things like pugil sticks and some boxing things. You only get one brain, protect it.

Yeah but I’m worried I’m going to get dq’d from commissioning. Honesty, if I can enlist in a year then I’m fine with going, I just don’t want to completely ruin everything.
You can't undo the head injury. It happened. I think you would be obligated to report it regardless if you seek treatment. On the DoDMERB questionnaire it asks lots of symptom questions too. Not just if you've been diagnosed with a concussion. It specifically says "Have you ever had or do you now have: 92: a head injury, concussion or skull fracture."

I certainly sympathize with your predicament, but it is in your best interest now and going forward to seek treatment and be honest with DoDMERB. They have already shown that they want you. If this results in a DQ, I am sure if it is safe for them to waiver you, they will. I would however tell the doctor that the correct diagnosis is specifically important in your situation. (ie don't call it a concussion if it isn't, ect. )

Best wishes for quick recovery and good news on the DoDMERB front.

What are you doing and when did you get your 4 concussions (how much time between? I'd be more concerned about healing completely and not getting a 5th than I ever would be about any future military career.

And like NavyHoops said, stop doing whatever it is that you are doing. Definitely no more sports that involve other people. (One of my kids got a concussion playing ultimate frisbee, another one while swimming.)

My first 3 were from football and the one I just got I was being a ******* with my friends and accidentally slammed the top of my head into a doorframe.

2013, 2015, 2018, 2023 are the dates of the concussions

I understand, but I just want to join the military more than anything else. Quite the predicament, but I think I may head to the doctor as my brain is starting to feel quite weird

Go to the doctor. I think what other posters are trying to say is “You’re an idiot if you prioritize a service academy appointment over your long term health”

There are reasons the standards for military medical accession are so so high, for both officer and enlisted.
One, military service is often performed in harsh operating conditions far from advanced medical care, and the military doesn’t want to further jeopardize your brain health if you have a history of concussions.
Two, the safety of the unit in an operational environment depends on everyone being in the best possible shape and as little vulnerable as possible to health conditions or prior medical issues. If you are the leader, you are responsible and accountable for the welfare of your people. You must hold yourself to a high standard of integrity and adherence to established guidelines for the safety of your team.
Three, if you lie on your DoDMERB medical history, you will have to remember to tell the same lie of commission every time you update it. If it is discovered that you were not honest, the longer you waited, the worse it will be, as an indicator of your character. You have already omitted reporting the real #3, and now you are thinking about doing the same for #4. It will be seen as you putting your wants above the needs of the people you might one day lead, integrity be damned.

The link below is the current accession standard. You clearly have figured out three is a magic number for a potential DQ. If you are honest and report all 4, my unofficial opinion would be you would get a DQ. Then you focus on the waiver process and hope for the best.

No one here is going to say, “Sure, don’t report this one either. Just get some rest and be more careful in
future.

Get thy brain to a doctor. If you don’t feel good, that’s your body telling you to take action steps to address this.

How hard will a waiver be to get if I say I have 3 concussions with the most recent being now. Assuming I have no long term damage and the doctors say that I’m good

There is no way to know unless you go through the process.

Should you go to the doctor?...Are bears catholic? Does the Pope poop in the woods? Are you trolling this forum saying you think you might have a subdural hematoma but don't know if you should get checked out....go to the doctor already!

I just really want to join the military and this is looking not very good for me in the getting medically qualified part.

You can't join if you're dead! Go get checked out if you are honestly concerned about a brain bleed. I'm sorry you are in the place of deciding if your health is more important than your scholarship. Hopefully your head ends up being just fine and your scholarship isn't taken away. Praying for you.
