Hey everyone,

So currently I live abroad in Tokyo, Japan (I am an American citizen and I go to an American high school), and I was wondering how the nomination process would be like for me since I don't live in the States. I do maintain residency in Arizona but would I be able to apply for a nomination in Arizona or would my only option be through the VP? Any advice would be awesome

My Mid’s buddy was in a similar living situation as you when he applied. His family had a residence in the states, maintained residency there, and applied through his state of residence.

Make sure you read on USNA’s website about applying. You aren’t the first to be in this situation and I’m confident USNA has laid out the process for you. Follow their instructions! Good luck, it’s a looooong process!

+1 @justdoit19 Our son just went through the nomination process in Arizona. Make sure you keep track of deadlines. One senator listed their application deadline as October 2019, some kids thought that meant October 31, 2019. It didn't. Apps received after 1 October were declined.
And, make sure you keep track or log test scores sent, transcripts etc. One office said they didn't receive College Board scores even though they were sent twice directly from College Board. Good luck to you!

Thank you so much, this will definitely help a lot.

My family lives in the UK and my DS is a senior at a DoD high school. We are permanent residents of Colorado. He applied for Congressional and Senatorial nominations and had his interviews via Skype/FaceTime. He received noms to both West Point and USNA. Based the Google sign up sheet for interviews for one Senator, my DS was not the only American abroad. There were students interviewing from Spain, Germany and Korea. Interestingly, there were also several students from Virginia (parents who likely are stationed at the Pentagon but who still claim Colorado residency). Good luck!

Much harder to get a nom from VA/DC area then CO.

@dav1y when i was living in Okinawa my sophomore year, one of the seniors got a nomination from a senator in Florida. Im going to assume that was her home state prior to living in oki
