Anyone going to the Coast Guard Parade 26 Apr. 08? I believe it's one of the few times OCS and Cadets march together.

Here is some info if you happen to be in the area.

U.S. Coast Guard & New London: Celebrating 218 Years Together

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A new celebration to come to New London

The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut has joined with the U.S. Coast Guard and the City of New London to bring a new community event to downtown New London. The celebration, "The U.S. Coast Guard and New London: Celebrating 218 Years Together," is scheduled for April 26 and will include a variety of fun, family friendly events designed to introduce the community to the world of the U.S. Coast Guard.

Schedule of events:

9 a.m.-2 p.m. – Cutter Tours: The U.S. Coast Guard will have two Coast Guard cutters, the 175-foot Abby Burgess and 140-foot Morro Bay, open for residents and visitors of New London to tour.

10:30 a.m. – Downtown New London Parade: Over 800 Coast Guard cadets, other Coast Guard units and a variety of community-based organizations will kick-off the parade at the corner of Howard and Bank Street and march down the streets of downtown New London. Click here for the complete parade route.

12 p.m. – Take a Cadet to Lunch: The community and families are invited to "Take a Cadet to Lunch" in downtown New London. After the parade, select New London cadets will meet with host families in front of the New London City Hall, 181 State St. This is a great opportunity for cadets to enjoy the hospitality of a local family in addition to being introduced to a downtown eatery. Families and individuals interested in hosting a cadet for lunch need to call the City of New London, Office of Downtown Development at 860-447-5260 and register. The registration will be on a first come basis.

1 p.m. – Search and Rescue Demonstration: The Coast Guard Station New London and Air Station Cape Cod will perform a search and rescue demonstration at Waterfront Park.

2 p.m. – Guard at the Garde: The U.S. Coast Guard Band will play a special engagement at The Garde Art Center, 325 State St., New London. No tickets required. Doors open at 1:30 p.m.

All events are free and open to the public. For more information, call the chamber at 860-464-7373 or visitwww.chamberECT.com.

The U.S. Coast Guard and New London: Celebrating 218 Years Together is sponsored by Dime Bank, Corcoran Jennison Companies, Sign-A-Rama, M.J. Sullivan Automotive Corner, Merritt Graphics, Sun Turtle Office Furniture, TCORS Counselors at Law, Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, Citizens Bank, and the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Southeastern New England, Inc.

BeatKP,

This looks like a great time, especially for cadets. My ship was originally slated to attend (210' Reliance class cutter), but due to some scheduling, they went with the 175 and 140.

Enjoy!!!
