1. **I am about to to turn 17 and I wanted to be in the us navy like my brother. After taking to my brother about the navy. he said that I would make a good officer. So I went online to look at my options of how to become a officer of the U.S. Navy, so I looked into US Naval Academy and nrotc, but I really want to challenge myself and try to get into the US Naval academy.

2. **I am about to be 17, I am homeschooled, I am a hard work, and I grow up in a family of ten, so I know what it is like to be a leader and a follower. My dad was a paramedic, and my mom was a stay at home mom, so we didn t have a lot of of money and, I was never handed anything in life, I understand that I must work hard to achieve my dream and accomplish my goal, of serving in the US Navy.

3 I am homeschooled but I check with my cover school and my GPA and graduations certificate is approved by the us navy and state. My GPA is a 4.0
I scored a 30 on my act and, on my Sat I scored a 1400.
I have 500 hours of Community Service.
I was in Boy Scouts.
I play play club soccer, i also do ODP, that is the Olympic development program.
I have a private tutor. I have a lot more stuff I could put on here but I am going to keep it short
But My concern is, that as a homeschooler they are going to over look all my accomplishments and not care about all that because I am homeschooled.
4 as a homeschooler is there any advantages I can use to help my increase my chances of getting accepted?
5 i already understand all the all the requirements and i must be nominator by my US senator.

Go to the USNA admissions website. There is information specific to homeschooling. There are plenty of kids each year who receive appointments to USNA who are homeschooled. Put home school in the search function on this forum and you will find tons of old threads with info. USNA admissions site is your starting point and you need to get familiar with it.

My friend from NASS was homeschooled and they had him submit all the information from his curriculum (like what books he learned from, etc), but definitely check the website as far as homeschooled-specific instructions

I am homeschooled and have been successful with a NROTC and AFROTC scholarship as well as having the academy express interest in me. I am just waiting on nominations. Here are the main things I have learned
- max out the ACT/SAT this counts more for homeschool students because it counts as class rank
- Document EVERYTHING you are required to send in all of your course material.
- Take online AP classes http://www.aphomeschoolers.com has been great for me.
- Take classes at the local Community College as they want to see that you are going to be able to work in a classroom environment.
- Be prepared for the questions about homeschooling many people are ignorant to what the academics of homeschooling entail or think you fit the stereotype.

I was in public school for almost all of my education up to high school. Switching over has been the single best thing of my life. My congressman told me that for the last 4 years a homeschoolers has been his number one candidate and they have had max two homeschool applicants out of 20. A friend of mine applying to USAFA got into their falcon scholars program to improve her academics. She decided after the year of prep to go to the AFROTC route just as a personal decision.

I have found that USAFA is the most homeschool friendly. USNA in my opinion is the least but they have been understanding about my academics. It is hard for them to question 50 community college engineering credit hours and several AP classes with 5s on exams.

It is possible but make sure you can prove everything. Most Community Colleges are still registering for classes so if you move quickly you may be able to take a class this spring.

You asked about advantages. If you are like me then you spend less time working on school than public school kids because there is no distractions and commotion when switching classes. This means you have time for more sports, extracurricular activities, leadership opportunities (this is another thing that I was told they look at particularly for homeschoolers), and can take harder classes.

Good Luck!!

ODP soccer.....! Have you thought about contacting the soccer coach? I know a few ODP players that went D1, nice level of play, congrats. In addition have you thought about their soccer camp as well as NASS? Stay on the pitch and roll the ball. Good luck.

Heh thanks for the help with everything.

I want to ask you a few questions if that's okay? If you can just send me a private message

Yes my coach is actually the us national soccer team scout, so I am going to have him contact the coachs..

Sure I can answer questions but you need 5 messages to do that. Just post 2 more messages bellow with like one letter. It doesn't matter what you post.

Ditto.... NotCollege beat me to the punch. Post 2 more as indicated. I will reply tomorrow.

That's a really good thing with a coach at that level making the call. Keep us posted. Last question.... my DS was a left middy, also loved playing sweeper. What is your primary position.

Actually it's 10 messages. Personally, I always recommend asking questions here unless there is something terribly personal about it. You get a broader audience to answer the question and the answer might then help others as well. JMPO.

I am a right back and yes I have 5 coachs that are really at the top lvl for soccer coaching and I have been coached by Julio sergio bertagnoli For one year

Yes I agree with you, and I am going to ask y'all, what classes would you recommend to take at my communion college?

Do you think a could use homeschooling to my advantage, to get a nomination to the Vice President? I also have a cousin in the navy who is a E-9, I have a brother an law who's E-7 in the army, and then my older brother was an E-5. Is there anyway they can help me with anything?

Your nomination can come from your congressman or your senators. Check to see if there are any other nomination sources you would qualify for.

Look into attending Boys State. It is held during your HS junior and senior year. It provides a large boost to your leadership score for any SA and ROTC program.

I have also talked to my mom and she had an idea. That if I went to the private college prep school next to my house for my senior year, she thinks that it would help me get in. What do y'all think about this?

I assumed you are a HS junior. Is that correct?

Okay I will check on that, the reason I would want to try to the Vice President for a nomination because they make it sound like if you get nominated by him you are pretty much guaranteed to be accepted but I am have read it wrong
