For the eighth consecutive year, VMI ranked fourth nationally behind the United States Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy, and the United States Military Academy in the US News annual rankings. Pretty impressive for a school with only 1600 cadets; Ra Va Mil!

We had no connection with VMI, so didn't know what to expect. It has exceeded our expectations many times over. Across the board from the admin to the teachers/coaches, alumni and the NROTC staff we have been absolutely blown away. It wasn't DS's first choice, but it has become clear pretty quickly that it was the right one. I don't really buy into the ratings much, but will say that there's no "fluff" at VMI. You will get out of it exactly what you put into it.

As I head to Lexington this weekend for my 35th reunion I am reminded of the choice I made to go to VMI. It remains the most influential decision I have ever made in my life. The lessons learned have served me well throughout my careers (military and civilian). Of all the decisions I have made in my life, choosing VMI will never be regretted.

Rah Virginia Mil!

VMI has been and always will be an exceptional school. The same reasons mentioned above are why our son is moving onto the path of the southern counterpart of Cid for attendance. While VMI and Cid may snipe back and forth, I'll always consider our northern counterpart exceptional. Exceptional schools.

Perfect way to describe one of the most unique schools in our country.

Er...don't think I would call VMI a "northern counterpart" to El Cid... too different in too many ways. Just my opinion, sorry.

Primarily I meant geographically, and I know most of the cadets between the schools very much consider themselves counterparts. Unless something has changed since my time there. I'm only referring to the Cadet Corps side of the house.
