USAFA acceptance questions

Hi
When is the latest USAFA can send out appointments?
USAFA is my first choice but I have already been accepted into Navy. I received my Offer of Appointment to the Naval Academy back in October via Presidential Nomination. I also have a LOA from West Point but I plan to not finish the application. When I did my Congressional Nomination for Air Force, the nomination staff did not make me the principal nominee because I already had an appointment to one of the service academies. That hurt. I have pretty good grades and solid standardized test. I also did a lot of volunteering. I attended both USNA and USAFA summer seminars. My father is a retired O-6 and my brother graduated as a distinguished graduate from USAFA. Any suggestions or help?
Thank you to all.

There are cases every year where an appointment is made just days prior to the BCT report date. It seems the majority of appointments will come out in March with additional batches in April, and a few in May and then some in June up until BCT starts. The fact that Navy offered you an appointment based on your Presidential Nomination, and Army gave you an LOA -- but you haven't heard from USAFA -- might tell you something? Aren't you approaching a decision date for committing to USNA? If you can't see yourself serving in the Army, or you'd rather be in the Navy instead of the Army, then that is a good reason to not complete your USMA application. IF you can't see yourself serving in the Navy, or can't get excited about going to USNA, then that is also a good reason to turn down USNA and throw all you hope behind an eventual USAFA appointment; however, it would have been better to do all that soul searching prior to opening up a file at all 3 of the "big" SAs. I'd say talk to your dad and your brother about your dilemma . . . it might not be as big of a deal as you think . . . I'm sure your dad and brother would cheer for your school in every game but one each year while you are attending . . . ;)

From the USAFA website

February/March:
I assume there are still a few that come out in April and of course, if you are waitlisted it could stretch into May.

You should have until May 1 to decide whether to accept or decline your USNA appointment so you should know in plenty of time.

Also, see this thread for an unscientific look at offers posted to SAF for the past 3 years by month

What do you mean by "The fact that Navy offered you an appointment based on your Presidential Nomination, and Army gave you an LOA -- but you haven't heard from USAFA -- might tell you something?"

Go where you are wanted! Bloom where you are planted!

You’ve been given 2 lotto tickets (USNA Appointment and a USMA LOA) that others would love to have.

IF you don’t want them, turn them down so others can use the spot.

I fully understand this. Thank you. I am asking do you think that I will not receive an appointment from air force because you think I would have already heard from them by now based on what the other academies have done?

I can’t answer that for sure. It depends on a lot of factors. Ive read that if you are living in Colo Spgs you are in the toughest area of the country to earn a USAFA appt. No one here can give you assurance either way.

As a parent not really in the know, I would say that you have to be happy and excited about where you end up. Now, it might not be a perfect fit but you can't truly dislike the SA where you enroll or you will not be successful no matter what.

Assuming you have no deadline constraints, I think I would hedge my bets a little. Pick your best fit between USMA and USNA, decline the other. I would keep plugging away at USAFA and see what happens. My gut feel is that your chances at USAFA are not as good as the other SAs where you have already received positive replies. However, it seems like you still have a chance.

It’s impossible to divine the tea leaves and say, “this happened at A, This didn’t happen at B, therefore this will happen at C.” The SA admission process is mysterious, the SAs act independently, and the transitive process doesn’t apply.

So don’t waste your time trying to read into things. Case in point: DD got an LOA and then offer of appointment from USNA in February and from USMA in March. Crickets from USAFA until just a couple days before national decision day — May 1 — when an offer of appointment materialized. Didn’t see it coming at all.

Isn't USNA's decision deadline May 1st like everywhere else? I'm puzzled why you would need to commit now. I wouldn't worry just yet about not hearing from USAFA. Most candidates haven't heard yet either, and USAFA is known to be the stingiest in terms of early appointments and LOAs. Hang tough!

I'd say wait until after March, when the majority of USAFA appointments go out, if it is your first choice.

You have time right now.

If you end up going Navy or Army, then you can still seek to cross-commission into the Air Force at graduation.

I wouldn't be concerned. DS has great test scores, 4.1 GPA, did great on interviews, maxed out on PT test, has MOC nom, and presidential NOM but we haven't heard from USAFA. We expect to hear something in March. Military is all about hurry up and wait. You'll get used to it.

Have you sent info for Presidential NOM to USAFA?? Father is retired O-6 so you should have but you need to act fast. I believe deadline is Jan 31. DS almost let this one slip through the cracks, fortunately, the one page of information is easy to put together. You should be able to mail it off tomorrow.
The more nominations you have the better. Don't just rest on one nomination.

Relax dude. At least wait til April before you start worrying. You're fine.

OP, do you have any nomination to usafa?
