Hello, I was wondering if getting a private pilot license would help me get into the Air Force Academy. Thank you for your help.

While this EC shows commitment, most of us do not have view it how much of a WCS boost it would provide a candidate.

IMHO, pursue your PPL if you love flying, not simply to pad your USAFA application.

The simple answer is no. While it's a nice "to have" item, it's not viewed as something everyone has the opportunity for and will most likely not garner you a lot of points.

Good replies. I have my PPL and I was not selected for USAFA. My reason for getting it was that I want to be a pilot, not just to get into USAFA. Getting your license takes an awful lot of time, money, and work. You could spend that time, money, and effort on things like improving your test scores, boosting your GPA, etc.

Like the last 2 replies said: Don't get your PPL as a "USAFA Application Booster". Only get it if you really want to fly; then, by all means, put it on your app. But don't expect magic.

Being an Eagle Scout and a Varsity Athlete will help you get into USAFA.

Any endeavor that demonstrates persistence, discipline, commitment, desire and requires the attainment of standards, and demonstrated knowledge and skill that sets you apart is a significant accomplishment and obvious application benefit. Certainly earning a PPL is a significant accomplishment. It takes sacrifice and commitment.

It helps on so many levels including your WCS (whole candidate score ) Not to mention how great it looks when getting a nomination....I have heard it is valued as much as being class president. Please search this site for prior answers.
If it comes down to you and someone else for appointment and you have a PPL and the other candidate does not guess who gets the nod.
Believe me it helps!!!!! I know first hand. But again, do a search. Most important if you are able to get your PPL and that is your passion go for it.
This message was for the OP only. Respectfully.
