I have been looking into different clubs at the Air Force Academy and they have a little bit about the Nordic team but next to nothing about the Alpine team. Has anyone been on the team or knew anyone on the team? What are practices like and when is the season from? Could I do another club sport like Mountain Biking in the fall or spring? But I was also thinking that first fall I would do nothing to get used to the academic level of the academy. I know its a few questions but the only thing I could find was an article in "CheckPoint" and that only got me more curious.

My son was captain of the nordic ski team his firstie year. If you pm me, I can get you in touch with him.

I have a similar question. I've been ski racing for the past 6 years but I am currently working extremely hard to hopefully get recruited for track. Is there any chance I could do both at the academy?

The short answer? No.

As an IC track athlete, your weekends (at least Saturday) would belong to the track team. You would not have time to also race on the Academy's Alpine (club) team.

I used to race competitively but I haven't for a while now... I was wondering how competitive the team is? Are there try outs?

I dont know if there is just because if you read the article it says they have people who have never raced to people who have raced their entire life. I have only raced for my sophmore and junior year in PA on a hill that had only 600 foot vertical drop. Haha i hope there is not tryouts.

alpineskier,

Sorry, the link wouldn't open for me before... that is a nice article!! This looks like a great opportunity to de-stress and be a part of a non-varsity team!
