You definitely need to retake the ACT. Improve all of your aspects as well as you can to be the best that you can be. Don't settle for average. There is always room for improving.

I agree with the above poster. You definitely will want to retake the ACT at least a few times. That way you can build up a good super score.

The rest of your resume looks pretty good! Keep in mind that even though you are prior-E the admissions office is still interested in HS grades and activities (sports etc). I would be very surprised if you were not at least accepted to USAFA Prep (which I highly recommend accepting).

You still have a few years left before you reach the age limit to apply, so don't be discouraged if you don't make it in the first time.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about the USAFA Prep School, the Academy or about being a prior-E cadet. You may need a few more posts on the forum before you are able to start private conversations.

Thank you for the input. I already scheduled my ACT retake. My ALO advised the same.

I would prefer the prep school because it has nearly been 3 years since I was in high school.

I have a poor HS GPA due to some issues with my family. I don't feel comfortable disclosing them on this forum. I did address it in my writing samples. My GPA from HS is a 2.08 however I did take two college classes and attained a 4.0 GPA.

I'm not one to strive for average, I'm trying my hardest.

If I don't get accepted to the academy or prep school I will definitely re-apply.

Scott....I give you a lot of kudos for going this route and having to deal with the adversity you have alluded to. having said that, and has been noted those ACT scores really need to improve..especially the math and English portions. Not sure what you're doing to prepare but take advantage of every avenue...on-line, tutor, class, etc, that is available to you to get them up.

What were the two college classes in? Hopefully soothing that mirrors the first year curriculum. At this juncture, while that bodes well with the 4.0, the testing could be a game changer as you've only got the two college classes. In any event, and regardless of what happens, keep at it and if for whatever reason it doesn't happen this year find out what you'll need to do to make yourself a great candidate.

I'm a former enlisted USAF myself from back in the middle ages and I always root for guys like you.

Scott: I am rooting for you as well. I am impressed with your persistence. Prepare well for the ACT (many classes and prep materials available for this). As was stated above, include all your extra-curricular activities, clubs, sports, etc from high school. From what I've heard, being invited to FVE is a very good sign that USAFA is interested in you. FVE does not ensure an appointment though, so allow it to be a catalyst for you to work harder to get this.

Scott, upward trends, especially if overcoming some pretty huge impediment, show perseverance, dedication, and motivation. OK, you've got a high school gpa that's not exactly stellar, but if you've proven yourself in these two college classes (please tell me what they are and your grades), I don't count you out at all. Especially with a year at prep school, you could find yourself in line for a nom and appointment.

Good luck

Scott, you might also want to consider taking the SAT as you might do better on that type of test. You have nothing to lose except the fee and some of your time. Good luck to you.

Gentlemen / Ladies,

My apologies for the late reply. The college classes I took were college algebra and writing composition. I achieved a 4.0 in both of these classes.

I didn't have the opportunity to be active within my highschool due to my circumstances. However I have volunteered a substantial amount while being enlisted. I have also been activery within base functions and sports teams.

Once again, I appreciate all of the opinions.
