USAFA chances

Oh and one more question. My cousin is the American Legion Auxiliary president at my local legion post and i figured she would make an excellent source for a LOR. I couldn't find any official guidelines for that type of situation so I just wanted your inputs.

Family members can't write your LORs.

Alright. How about one written on BEHALF of the entire post? All of them know how badly I want to go to USAFA and how committed i am to helping out during weekly fundraisers.

I think one person has to write the letter of recommendation. Not sure on this though. And if they do allow you to get one on behalf of the entire post, if your relative is part of the post, I would think that counts as getting a LOR from a relative.

Oh man. Alright. I can easily ask anyone else there. I was just curious. Thanks for the info

I'm only a candidate like you. You might want to ask a more reliable source(like your ALO), I could be wrong. But I know that family members cannot write LORs for you.

Once you are deemed candidate, USAFA will assign you an ALO. The process is pretty clear cut once they send you the congrats you are a Candidate letter. Your ALO will help you in this process.

Ya I talked to him the other day. But here's a question for you if you're a USAFA candidate too. When did your portal say your application was due. Mine is like the first week of November. I hear they're usually due in the winter. Is this some sort of prompting for that early-action type deal they've implemented fairly recently?

Nav, PIMA is NOT A CANDIDATE.

There has been a change. Please abide by all due-dates.

Nav,

You are officially a candidate because you now have what they call in the AF a drop dead date. This is the newest tweak. Everything else should be starting to open now for you
~ The way I am reading it is that Nov 1st. deadline from last year is not this years system. It is now when they classify you as a candidate the clock starts ticking.

In the know (poster) can give you insight if Flieger and CC don't answer. He posted how the letters/notification are being sent out this year on a different thread.

I would stand by that Nov. date as a MUST submit the CFA, Essays, transcripts, Recs.
~ DoDMERB is different. You can't do it until they request it.
~ ~ My guess is DoDMERB will be done before that Nov. date.

Thanks Pima. Everything for me is due Nov. 6th. I'll get everything I can done.

It appears to me that the applicants are now changing to candidates. I think you are the 5th, at least that I have heard of with a Nov. 5-10 drop dead date.

OBTW change that statement I'll get everything I can done to I will get everything done.

Clock is ticking. Good news for you is that if AFROTC is plan B, you should be able to meet the 1st board too.

Good. You seem like everything is under control. Practice both the CFA and PFA, Study for the fall SAT/ACT

Breathe! Come mid October you will be able to breathe more.

Visit every AFROTC det you can when touring the campuses. It will get you more accustomed to the interviewing process because now you have talked to them causually. It will not seem as daunting later on for those must interviews (MOC and AFROTC scholarship)

Edit, re-edit and re-edit again your essays,

Just wanted to keep you all updated. I'm now in the application process for the Civil Air Patrol. My local senior squadron got ahold of me and said that they wanted me on as part of their flight crew as a mission scanner. They were actually excited about it and said I was eligible to make 2nd lieutenant in 6 months after my level 1 period. Said it would look very good on a USAFA or any SA application

When I first joined this site, I made a thread about joining civil air patrol to make my resume stronger. People told me that I only did CAP my senior year it would look like I was resume padding(which looks bad to the admissions people). I don't think being in CAP will help your application very much, if at all, if you are only going to be in it your senior year.

dangit. well that was not my intent, but i figure the experience will be valuable anyways. I'm sure being part of the flight crew may help me out down the road.

My DD was told the same thing, it would look like resume padding. It would be better to seek out leadership roles in the ECs you are already doing.
