Since my appointment, I've been meaning to connect with other Class of 2018 cadets. If anyone can provide a link to the Facebook group, I'd really appreciate it.

Caution.

Each year this comes up. Setting up a FB Group for 2018 Appointees to connect is fine. However know that the BCT Cadre will get access to it (yes even if it is a private group). In past years, some Appointees wrote things like "we are going to be the best class ever" and "BCT will be a cake walk" and "I can't wait to get there to kick everybody's butt". Well when these Appointees got to BCT, the Cadre had figured out who the offenders were and the Cadre paid "special" attention to them. Not the best way to start off . . .

Good to know lol if a group dpes come up i'll make sure not to be the one to post something like that :yllol:

+1. Dont draw special attention to yourselves if you can help it. This is the one time in your life you don't want to be "special.":shake::eek:

If you set up a group and you're the admin, be aware that you will be responsible for vetting the people who request to be in the group. Could be painful. Might be worth it.

They'll get in

They always get in. Take it from me. Be prepared to vet everyone who comes in to have any hope of not having any upperclassmen getting in. Or just dont post anything that will get you singled out.

Haha just be careful about what you post, then you don't need to be afraid. As for getting singled out, nearly everyone gets singled out at some point during basic. It's just the nature of the Beast. But they make for great stories after the fact.

Thank you for the advice. Perhaps it is best to play it safe and meet fellow cadets the old fashion way: face-to-face on the first day of BCT.

It was stated earlier, but this question comes up every year. No matter what the cadre will single you out for something. I say just go ahead and make a group, just don't be stupid with what you post.

Just a heads up, your group currently has more upperclassmen than '18 appointees in it... I counted at least 17 of your 27 current members as upperclassmen. :thumb:

Although the short stay was nice, I am suggesting that everyone avoids the group. More hassle than benefit is going to come from being in that group. And after getting my FaceBook rifled through as a AS100 ROTC, I can firmly attest that all should secure their accounts in the coming days. Just a thought:rolleyes:

17'er here: if you just do a search for "USAFA Class of 2018," that group is a trap. Though why my classmates have set up a dummy group, given that they will have zero interaction with you during BCT, is beyond me.

Good luck, and remember:

Rule of the Internet #12: Anything you say can and will be used against you. Yes, even that.

Actually it was created by an 18er but it was quickly overrun by 17ers.
