USAFA Class of 2024 Appointment Thread

Only one semester--Fall. Students return home a couple of weeks before Christmas. Students enroll at a local community college or another college of their choice for the Spring semester. The durbecks ensure students are enrolled in the correct courses while waiting to hear from the SA.

Hey I was in a similar boat to you. I applied to the academy 3 times - each time improving my application. I ended up selling my car to pay for NWP then still wasn't accepted. I love the Durbecks and made great friends up on the mountain but if you are set on getting into USAFA I suggest enlisting. If you enlist in the Guard then reapply thats your best bet. I joined the Guard and applied and was appointed for c/o 2024. Each year at the academy there are seats set aside for prior enlisted, and as soon as you complete BMT you qualify to apply as a prior.

If you enlist in active duty I was told that they make you wait a year before applying, thats why I went guard. You would have to go to AF basic training then tech school, but depending on your state you will have education benefits and make decent money. I am in intel and was tempted to not even go to USAFA and pursue a civilian job in this field because I enjoy it so much. I guess all I am trying to say is don't feel down or stuck. My GPA in high school was 3.3 - I am far from their ideal applicant, but because of my experience in the AF I have a lot to offer USAFA. It's up to you just thought I would share!

So don't give up, or let the expense of NWP make you feel like you don't have a shot at getting an appointment.

thats a huge fear, and now hear its 13k for one semester ( i knew it was to good to be true when I saw the price and thought it was for a yr )
its a big gamble I just don't know if my family can take when there are so many other avenues.

DD got a phone call from our Congressman 1/15 portal updated a couple days later

MMI is about $21k for the entire year (which includes books, room & board, fees and uniforms) but depending on your grades, etc., they have very generous scholarships which can cut that amount drastically. You also earn college credit, which means if unsuccessful you aren't behind on a plan B.

There's a couple places to look for good news...one, we're headed into the March/April core notification time and two, all though these numbers look like a lot on the list it's really not. The graph below shows reported appointments so far for USAFA, USNA, and USMA and the total for all three is less than 300! Hang in there and good luck!!

The scholarship helps a lot (once they accept you theres more information about this) it ended up being 9k for me. But you just have to apply and you get it- no sob story, or reason really necessary. They just asked me to write an essay about why I want to go to USAFA. But yeah stay hopeful it is super early still!

Is it just me or does the Y-axis scale look off for USNA and USMA?
 
No, it's cumulatively reported on a daily basis. Each day shows a number corresponding to each SA with the top line (USNA) crossing the cumulative reported appointment on that day.

Hey I was in a similar boat to you. I applied to the academy 3 times - each time improving my application. I ended up selling my car to pay for NWP then still wasn't accepted. I love the Durbecks and made great friends up on the mountain but if you are set on getting into USAFA I suggest enlisting. If you enlist in the Guard then reapply thats your best bet. I joined the Guard and applied and was appointed for c/o 2024. Each year at the academy there are seats set aside for prior enlisted, and as soon as you complete BMT you qualify to apply as a prior.

If you enlist in active duty I was told that they make you wait a year before applying, thats why I went guard. You would have to go to AF basic training then tech school, but depending on your state you will have education benefits and make decent money. I am in intel and was tempted to not even go to USAFA and pursue a civilian job in this field because I enjoy it so much. I guess all I am trying to say is don't feel down or stuck. My GPA in high school was 3.3 - I am far from their ideal applicant, but because of my experience in the AF I have a lot to offer USAFA. It's up to you just thought I would share!

So don't give up, or let the expense of NWP make you feel like you don't have a shot at getting an appointment.

Did you join the guard after your first time applying? Or your second? How long were you in the national guard before you got appointed to USAFA?

A friend and I both got a tour at our local air national guard station the other day and we're both hooked. He's committed because of the educational benefits, as well as his passion for mechanic work. He will be taking the oath sometime next month. I'm waiting for my USAFA decision before I think about it much. Your experience makes me more sure about how good of an alternative it is because 1. working on C-130s for a year or two will be fun! and 2. It's another path to USAFA if I don't get in this year. The only doubt I have is whether or not I will be able to leave the guard commitment of 6 years for the academy if I'm accepted in the future. I asked the recruiter this question and he didn't have a definite answer other than it "depends." How were you able to leave? By the way, congrats on your c/o 2024 appointment!
