This is just another thread to get us talking g while we wait for I day to come and decisions to float in.

So I was at my friends house and we were all just relaxing and watching TV when the most magical thing happened. A USAFA commercial came on and a young lady spoke of all the possibilities USAFA offered. They looked blank like it was just another military commercial but it was the first time in my three years of knowing of USAFA that I'd seen a commercial for the school. I just sat there and said that's where I'm going. That's going to be me. And they just looked at me. I feel like military people and the families who go through this process truly understand the meaning of an appointment but not everyone gets it. I don't mind explaining though, I love hearing about the good the bad and the ugly that I'm about to embark on.

I love when things like that happen! When I see commercials and such, sometimes I actually tear up because I get so inspired and I'm so excited that I will get to be a part of that!

I just got super excited. I am so proud of just joining the military! Following in my family lineage. But now I get to be the first officer and hopefully I can treat mentally I'll soldiers as a psychologist like I dream.

That would be so cool!
I know how you feel; my brother is in the Army and I felt so proud to be able to tell him that I will also serve in the military! I know how proud I feel every time he comes home in his uniform, knowing that he is part of such an amazing fighting force. My Dad was an Army officer too, and it just kind of makes you feel like you're carrying on their legacy, you know? And knowing I get to be a part of that too is so humbling and amazing! I can't wait!!!!!

That's exactly how I feel. I just can't wait. Its going to be worth the hard times we will face to in return get to serve.

I completely agree! I feel like in this country, it's such a PRIVILEGE to serve! And we are so lucky to have this opportunity! Hopefully that will be what keeps us sane during BCT, is to remember that!

Outstanding discussion Cadets. Obviously, you have chosen a very particular lifestyle -- one that few young people really do understand. It has its rewards; it has its challenges. I am not an SA grad, but know many who are. Paraphrasing a retired Army Col and USMA grad: The Academy helps prepare you for leadership, but it is different than actually being an officer; the "perception" of being in the Academy, and in the military, is very different than living it. However, if you can keep this ideal [commitment to service] in mind and always a view for the "big picture," of why you are here and the meaning of the oath you have sworn, then the two aren't as far removed.

I have not seen the USAFA commercial, but I do get teary when the USN commercial comes on, showing all types of Naval personnel in different deployments with the closing line: "Before anyone can get to you, they have to get through us."

Thank you for that advice, I shall carry it with me through basic. I haven't been sure about a whole lot while in high school but I know one thing for sure. I am blessed to be going to the USAFA and honored to commit.

That was a great commercial! It lead me to this video:

They're right, us 2019ers have it SO easy right now! We're in civvies, don't have to greet anyone, no minutes, ahhhhh this is the life! Made me chuckle!

Bailey I agree the first time I saw that video the first thing that stuck out to me is them mentioning class of 2019. Even after being appointed and accepting the appointment it doesn't totally feel real. I look at the calender and this video and I am still shocked to know that I will be there in about three months.

I know! I can't even believe it. They say "Class of 2019" and it took me a second and then I was like "oh, hey that's me!" haha! And then I relished in all the things we have right now that the C/O 2018 doesn't such as civvies haha!
Guys, it's gonna be SO COOL! I can't wait!

I think this is the commercial being discussed. I enjoyed it.

That is the video. It is touching to me. Inspiring.

Haha, were 2019 its going to be a rollarcoaster

Not a commercial per se but still my favorite USAFA video... and will get everyone ready for the fall:

This is great because it reminds you why USAFA is here, yeah there's football, but even the football players are there to be molded into great leaders of our Air Force!

Bailey, remind me to talk to you when you go to a December night game, temperature 4*, windchill -20*. Have your parents start sending you hand and foot warmers asap. :)

2009 football game against TCU was one of the most miserable experiences in my USAFA career. Not many things drive up the cynicism meeter more than having to huddle in a packed bathroom to stay warm, and then having an AOC chase you out so you can show your fanatical institutional pride in the stands. If your sons were there they'd probably have similar feelings.

Truth. Even worse when a freezing game is on a school night.
