Did USAFA suffer damage from the freak hailstorm that struck the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo yesterday?

The injury reports are sad: 14 people injured, 2 animals killed and 16 additional animal injuries. Over 300 vehicles were abandoned in the parking lot because they could not be driven off the lot.

The zoo isn't particularly close to USAFA but I hadn't seen anything other than wide spread power outages in the Springs area.

As a Colorado resident, didn’t read or hear anything about severe damage to USAFA. Summer storms in Colorado can be very isolated, swamping a couple square miles for several minutes, but having zero impact just another mile away. So wouldn’t be surprised if while hail was pelting the zoo, nothing at all was falling at USAFA.

I was at the top of Eagles Peak when the hail hit, but it was to the south near the zoo. USAFA got a good lightening show around 8PM, but that was it.

The hail wasn't so nice to me yesterday as I sit here at Denver International for my 18th hour since hail damaged several Southwest Airline planes.

The weather out at USAFA can be rough on cars. My advice, don't buy anything too nice or you will be disappointed which you get your first hail ding!
