Usafa early action

You are correct that it mainly affects the more desirable. That is its main intent. Only people wanting to believe that the were somehow special read into it to mean more. But it does help some on the other end of the scale. Those who while qualified, probably don't stand a very good chance. It's better to know sooner than to hold out and possibly turn down another offer waiting until April.

As for an early appointment, that is really only for those with a presidential or other non-congressional nomination. They are the only ones eligible for an appointment prior to November. And as for an loa, that isn't any real guarantee. I've seen plenty of people with an loa not receive the appointment because they didn't get a nomination. Or because they didn't pass their physical.

The majority of applicants only get congressional nominations. And these nominations have a deadline of January. So the EA method is the only possible means of knowing if you have a chance without waiting until April or May.m

Bottom line...... Get your application done after 1 November and you will wait til April or May to find out. Complete your application before 1 November and you have a chance of knowing in January. It's really that simple.

Christcorp - you nailed it completely! Daughter was an Early Action last winter and it was probably due to competitive issues... already had an LOA from USNA, quite qualified and starting to dance with Ivy League and Standford...

EA is selective in letting the applicant know that she/he has a spot reserved, and she/he need not look any farther for a completely tier 1 education! There's no need to look at any other scholarship from Yale or Harvard since you already have top tier! In the case of ICs... why look at Ohio State football... when you can have USAFA?

Early Action is so selective, that not being on the list does NOT mean not qualified! Being EA means exceptionally qualified, and the USAFA would be a fool NOT to offer an appointment! Not being EA means You've met all qualifications, and are still in the running. Don't give up, since at this point 60% of everyone still in the race at the EA cutoff still make the cut! I've heard that the percentage cutoff of EAction is so tight, that it's more of a "we'll lose all sorts of funding if we don't take this one!"
