USAFA Orientation

I'm atttending the first orientation, April 12 & 13th with my family and we made reservations at the Academy Hotel. We will driving up there from Texas.

Thanks bsa07eagle for offerring to answer questions about the area, I'm sure we will have some later.

I'm looking forward to meeting the other appointees who will also be at the first orientation! Should we start a list of who is going to which orientation?

I checked out https://admissions.usafa.edu/RRX/app...gistration.htm and will be going to the first session (April 12-13), but didn't register yet. If you go to https://admissions.usafa.edu, it says you can only register for orientation between February 1 - April 23.
 
considering most of the class does not even know if they are appointed yet (hopefully my son will end up there), those of you with LOAs/appointments already are WAY ahead of your classmates. Don't stress over it.
 
My son and I went to last year's orientation and here are a few things I remember related to these posts:

I believe the orientation package came in the big white envelope with the Offer of Appointment and he had to select an orientation date on the usafa web site.

We stayed at the Hampton next to the Embassy Suites, but we stayed at the Embassy on the I-day trip and liked it.

I drove a rental car to USAFA on Monday and Tuesday, but I believe I could have taken the bus on Monday and the rental car on Tuesday. We had a flight out of COS at about 3pm and we just arranged to meet at Arnolds Hall earlier and he was able to do that without any problem.

Take the walking tour on Tuesday afternoon of the cadet area if you can make it.

Also, there were 'informal' Sunday evening dinners before each orientation session where appointees, parents, and current cadets attended. Try to make one of those because you will get a lot of good as is information from the cadets who come.

Also, just to throw it out there.....

The cadets of this site usually setup dinners for the appointee's to attend the night before orientation to have a more relaxed environment to answer any questions for both the appointees and their parents. We usually start to schedule them in mid-March. So just keep it in mind! I attended last year and it was great. Hopefully i will be on the other side of things this time around.

Guess thats what they must have been working on whilst the system was "Out Of Service" for a couple of days.

So, we kinda started to find out what Dates people were going to try and attend the Orientation....so lets start:-

I called USAFA this morning and they said that although there is info on the application page about the orientation the computer people are still working on it and it's not ready for us to use yet. They said to wait until Feb 1st and not to worry if you will get a spot, they are accepting all who want to go!

If you can, get to know as many appointees as you can while you're here (don't introduce yourself to EVERYONE, of course, but form a good group of friends if you can). A bunch of the people I chilled with at my hotel and during orientation are my better friends here at USAFA. And when you get to a hard time here, these friends are the best thing you've got.
