Good afternoon!

I am looking for a little bit of guidance here and have been doing some digging unable to find any info.

I am interested in trying out for the USAFA as a walk on to the track and field team as a decathlete in 2015 provided my prep school year goes well (which I intend). Given the fact that the prep school does not have a track and field team and I want to walk on in 2015...is there anyway to try out this summer at the open meet in August of 2014 and red shirt prep school year if they decided they want me on the team? Going 10-12 months without training for a sport would surely ruin any hope of successfully trying out and walking on.
I spoke with Coach Lindeman a couple times and he promised he would give me the opportunity to tryout. He told me that I needed to be accepted into the Academy to give me that opportunity. Now I realize I may have just answered the question in itself but I do not believe that is the case. What do recruited athletes do if their sport is not offered and they get accepted into the P School?I do not presume waiting 10 months?

If anyone has any info or you're a track athlete now, I would greatly appreciate the help. Thank you in advance!

Whenever you're in season you just take a car/ g.o.v and go to your practice area. There are several kids here that are recruited for sports that aren't offered at the prep. And you're right, they don't wait 10 months doing nothing. Whenever they need to go to practice they just leave, usually around 1500.

So you're saying that they practice with the team at the prep school? I didn't think that was allowed per NCAA guidelines. That's almost like red shirting. And that's not permitted because you aren't an appointee to the Academy technically.

I heard that those athletes who are in sports that aren't offered at the Prep School often make clubs with other cadet candidates at the Prep School in order to stay in shape. This is the first time I've heard that you'd be able to practice with the academy teams. I also believe that's against the NCAA rules.
