USAFA request for body composition

Hello,

After receiving my DoDMERB, USAFA requested that I fill out a body composition form because I am considered underweight for my height. USAFA is the only service academy to have requested this. Has anybody gone through the body composition form? Would I have to get a waiver if USAFA is not happy with my body composition or would it be an automatic disqualification?
Thank you.

My ds did except in his cycle (he's class of 2026), USMA was the only one to request it. He got it done and never heard another thing about it. No waiver was ever needed. He got appointments to both USAFA and USMA (only SA's in which he applied).

Edited to add: My ds was also underweight. He had just gotten back from Philmont (Boy Scout backpacking trip) and lost 5 lbs from his already very light frame. By the time he entered USAFA, he was barely back up to the weight standard. Because of his weight, he was given extra protein shakes during BCT so he wouldn't lose any more. He actually gained weight during BCT which he promptly lost the next summer during CST.

I hear that if you exceed the mesaurements for body compositions then they'll consider you for a waiver if you're still competitive. Getting an excellent CFA would probably help.

My son was requested to do it for being overweight. His DoDMERB medical exam was done in summer. When he received the request in fall, his weight met the requirement. He sent it in, and did not hear anything further about it. He's in the class of 2029. I read on their website? that they will give you more than one chance for body composition if they really want you.

My DS got the same request when he applied. It’s an easy process. He had our local high school nurse administer it. If you are overweight because you are muscular, you shouldn’t have any issues. There is a formula they use with the waist and height measurement. As soon as you send it in, they will send a pass or fail email.

I was asked for it, very simple. Just a requirement. Think more along the lines of somewhat auto request.

DS went through it (I forget if it was USNA or USCGA that asked for it). Filled out forms. He was riiiiiight on the line. Maybe a tad under… I can’t remember. He’s just tall and lean. During his Swab Summer at USCGA they gave him extra snacks/protein bars and he gained 15lbs. lol Best of luck to you!

My daughter had to fill out the form too, I can't recall the order of events though as DODMERB said she had a "abnormal BMI." They asked that she to follow-up with her medical doctor to rule out eating disorders, thryroid issues, etc. She is a Nordic skier, 128 pounds and 5'-10". We jumped through the hoops and ultimately things got resolved with DODMERB.

USNA did not ask for the information, we found that interesting. She is now a 142 pounder at USNA. :-)

I told my DS about this last night because he is worried about underweight issues (mind you he is 15 so a lot can change). He was very excited about MORE food and protein shakes. 😂 I probably should have had him take protein shake packets to Philmont this past summer!

I'm going to Philmont this summer with my youngest and won't mind the loss of lbs. LOL!

Hey all... When my son was checked for his body composition for AFROTC, the officer in charge, was like "whoah"... 5'8" 175lbs. My son bulks up for football and then slims down for wrestling. I wish they would have checked his body composition during wrestling season instead of football season... 😅 We shall see how it pans out.
