I know it's not a guaranteed admission if the waiver is approved but this is another big win in my progress towards an appointment and I don't have many to share it with. Here's hoping it's approved :groupwave:

Congrats bro. I was in the same boat last year and got the waiver. Hope to see you here next year.

Congratulations!! Did you get a notification through DoDMERB or USAFA? I'm still "Under Waiver Review" in DoDMERB, so I'm just curious!

I got an email directly from USAFA admissions informing me that they are seeking a waiver. I was informed of medical disqualification on Tuesday of last week.

Congrats, admissions also requested waiver for me last week so hopefully it gets approved!

So one week between notifications of DQ to waiver request? DD just got her DQ as expected she said the portal says "Medically Disqualified".

For me, yes this was the case. I think it is different for everyone and may depend on factors like when the rest of the application was completed and how competitive the candidate is. I completed the application Dec 19th w/ nomination posted and I would say I am competitive. Stuff like principal nomination would also I assume speed the process up, although I did not get that because I got a nomination from my Commander. (currently enlisted)

Congrats! That's a good indicator. Question, was USAFA your intention upon enlisting, or was it something you discovered as an option after enlisting?

I wanted to go to the Academy but was happy either way. Enlisting is a good deal, and I needed certainty as home-life was not the best. The recruiter offered my choice of 3 jobs and guaranteed one of them, which was a deal, and IMO too good to pass up. It allowed me to know where I was going a whole year ahead. In retrospect I wish I had completed my package for USAFA the first time, I didn’t realize that I could’ve just cancelled the enlistment if I got in. I’m still happy I enlisted, I’ve met a lot of cool people and if I do get picked up for the Academy/Prep, I am sure it is beneficial to have seen the enlisted perspective.

Absolutely. Your experience and knowledge as a Prior or Prior Preppie would serve you well at USAFA. Good luck!

My DS had ~3 weeks between DQ notification and waiver initiation. Prior to waiver initiation, he had been proactive and provided some evidence to DoDMERB to support the fact that his disqualifying condition had been resolved. Once the waiver was initiated, the approval time frame was only 4 days (perhaps because the waiver authorities had what they needed thanks to my DS's efforts). Based on the issues at DoDMERB this year, should those who have had waivers initiated and approved be feeling a bit more positive about the eventual outcome (i.e. possible appointment), or is this foolish logic?

I think it's a good sign because as I see it they wouldn't request it if you weren't qualified in other respects. So I would say it probably means they're up for consideration

I was so happy to hear your waiver was approved as I have read through this thread. I was just medically disqualified by DODMERB for a childhood ADHD diagnosis. I got nominations to USNA and USAFA. I haven't hear if they are going to request a waiver. I hope so. I am crushed, but I know there is hope. I haven't taken any medication in well over a year, I don't have a 504 anymore or use accommodations, and I have good grades and test scores. I hope they are willing to give me a waiver and that I am accepted. My psychiatrist from the past who diagnosed me and gave me prescriptions for ADHD has written a letter that states I no longer take medication and am doing well academically, and I have tht to submit if they ask. Otherwise, I am just waiting with breath held and fingers crossed. Do you know anyone who was disqualified because of ADHD and got a waiver and was later accepted? That would give me more hope.

If waiver is requested, I would recommend getting a second opinion/assessment showing ADHD is not issue
