I have heard from multiple people that USAFA looks for minorities when selecting people to attend Summer Seminar. So I was wondering, since I am not a minority would it hurt to select "decline to respond" on the race questions? Would it give me a better chance of being selected?

Having been previously recruited for the Diveristy Visitation Program in September, I can confirm that the academy DOES actively seek out all opportunities to appoint minorities. For example, due to my ethnic and socio-economic background, I was flown out, given one on one counselor help, and follows up until my appointment arrived. However, I believe you should answer all questions on the application because "diversity" at the academy is far different than diversity for us normal folk. USAFA considers many aspects such as financial status, location, ethnicity, and far more. Be complete and honest and let them do the deciphering!

Best of luck.

I heard the same thing. I also heard that they don't like to take people from CO because they want to give out of state cadets the experience since there are lots of kids in state who want to go the Academy. However, I am a white female from CO who was selected to attend, and I met two others from CO who attended as well and they were both white males. And honestly, the majority of people who went were also white. Granted, I don't know the status of their economic backgrounds. But rest assured that they do look at test scores, essays, etc. in addition to diversity.
