Usafa summer seminar --> USNA summer seminar?

I found out on Friday that I had been accepted to attend summer seminar at usafa. I was wondering if that was any indication as to being competitive for the other summer programs, or if they are too different to be able to make that comparison.

Thank you!

Go to whatever school you wanna actually visit. I went to USAFA, because I had already been to USNA before. I had a blast at Air Force and all my buddies who went to Navy also had a good time.

I think it all depends on what the academy wants for their summer program. I know NASS is highly based off of location so yes, it might be too difficult to tell because of that factor. Congratulations on getting into the Air Force one though and hopefully you'll hear from USNA soon!

There is ZERO correlation between what one academy decides regarding their applicants versus what another academy decides. It's not as if somebody at USAFA is going to make a phone call to USNA and say, "Hey, have you seen this one candidate? We are inviting him to our summer seminar. You should do the same!" Nobody at USNA would even know that a candidate is attending another academy's seminar - nor even care, for that matter.

You have to remember, there is no shortage of qualified candidates. About the only time an academy might care about a particular candidate's relationship with one of the other academy's is if the candidate was a highly recruited athlete. USNA would not want to lose a potential star running back to USAFA or USMA if that candidate was applying to all three academies. Yet, seldom do recruited athletes attend summer seminars.

Right, I figured there would not be any communication between the academies, especially for the summer programs. I was just curious what the percentage is of students selected for multiple summer programs versus just one.

Thank you all very much!

DS has USNA 2018 appointment was selected NASS, USMA SLE (in the sequestration year where they only accepted around 500) but rejected at USAFA for SS. He only completed his application to USNA as he decided that was his first and only choice. No correlation but it is good for the morale department as the long journey begins.

What were his biggest takeaways from NASS and SLE? I know that they are supposed to give a view of academy life, but they are recruiting tools, so I'm not sure how "realistic" they are...

He did not attend SLE due to a conflict. His experience at NASS and CVW were confirming of USNA as his choice. He took it for what it was-a recruiting tool and "taste" of academy life. He made some fast friends who are now also 2018 appointees. He also met some mids in town (we stayed a few days after) who were able to answer questions and tell him what it was like for them.

Was there anything he wished he had taken/know before attending NASS? I'm trying to get a fairly good idea of what to expect, beyond just what the websites and videos show...

Lots of socks, extra shoes if it rains and be super prepared for the CFA. It's a great time to post your best performance because the competition pushes you harder. Be ready to complete your app when you get back and get your medical done early in the process. Make friends some of them may become classmates. Good luck!
