Hello!
I was hoping to get some information on the specific details in becoming a pilot physician.

I just started my application to USAFA'26 in hopes of admissions and graduating with a bachelor's in Biology then going off to medical school. When I finish I would like to go to pilot training to join the pilot physicians program. I currently have a private pilot and am starting my commercial license.

What I'm asking is if anyone knows when I serve does the pilot physician program count? Or would I have to serve my 13 years first then go into the pilot physician program afterwards?

Well, I'm applying as well. What I know, first once you graduate you'll need to serve (I believe the minimum is 5 year so correct me if I'm wrong). However, if you train to fly then the time after serving is much longer, at least 10 years since a lot of money/time is put into pilot training. So, I don't think you can go straight to medical school once you graduate, after your serving time is up then yes you can. Perhaps someone who's actually gone through the experience can tell you, I'm going based off of what I know.

thank you so much for replying!
I know that upon graduation USAFA can send 10% directly into med school to do training through USUHS and payback active duty when I'm done.. but does that mean I have to go through that first then off to pilot training? then do the payback again after that?

you can do pilot training while at USAFA

lol. You can do some light aircraft training at USAFA, but USAFA will not get you your PPL much less UPT. You can get your PPL while at USAFA, but thats on you not USAFA. The OP is working towards his/her commercial so they already have their PPL.

To the OP, outside of the standard: "There are no guarantees. Their are opportunities and possibilities. Be at the top of your class and you will have a better chance to make those dreams come true. The needs of the Air Force come first." I have little to offer...accept a link

Sounds like he did not serve his commitment and THEN enter pilot physician so it would seem you do not have to wait, but that is coming from someone with no knowledge interpreting a Youtube video so take that for what it is worth.
