USAFA Waiting Thread C/O 2027

I just spoke with admissions today and my file has not been reviewed yet. Is this a bad sign?
No. Think of it as a physics problem. Can the USAFA staff review all several thousands of applications at once? No, so someone is first, and someone is last, and the rest are in between.

They have a duty to thoroughly review and evaluate everyone’s application, and they will. There are many intersecting and parallel processes ongoing during the complex class-building process. It is a jigsaw puzzle with more pieces than will actually fit in the frame. No doubt they have their methodology of how to tackle the various nomination categories, the slates from elected officials, the USAFA prepsters, the Falcon Scholars, etc.

You are in the hunt until you are told otherwise.

Agreed. I'll also point out that the application asks about family members that served. Having knowledge of military life style and likely accompanied military propensity is a positive. Given two candidates that are equivalent in the scoring system, one with no military background, the other with, which would you appoint?
That’s how I see it too. As a retiree, my kids got to live the life. Sometimes great, sometimes really tough. Military families have to try hard to make it work and deal with a parent (sometimes both) that are gone a lot. Some people just can’t comprehend short notice 6 month orders to a combat zone. Mom or dad missing important life events over and over again. Kids from military families that want to serve understand the hardships that come with military service.

My friend in my same school got an appointment in early December. He won my house members slate so hoping I still have a chance in the national pool.
You do indeed still have a chance in the national pool. Unless you are non-selected that's always a possibility. There's also a chance your congressperson has 2 appointment spots avail this year.

How did you ask if your file has been reviewed or not? Dis you straight up ask or tried to add information to your application?

I was still able to add info to my application, meaning it hasn’t been reviewed.

I emailed and asked any my son's file has been reviewed. Not selected at this time.

I sent an email a few days ago adding information to my file, but they did not respond with anything to the email. Do you think my file has been reviewed yet or they still havent gotten around to my email? And thank you

For people trying to contact admissions asking if their files been reviewed yet: it’s just wasting their time. They’re obviously busy and already dealing with delays even now from the DoDMERB outage. I am waiting to hear about an appointment too so I know it sucks waiting too!!

It’s their job to answer questions. Don’t think twice about it.

What school, may I ask ?
I know in Ohio that there have been 6 appointments already, hopefully more to come.

I never even thought emailing admissions was allowed - I can't even figure why I'd think that. We are still waiting for my son to hear. He's under waiver review according to DoDMERB but medically DQ on the portal (ADD no med/no accommodations). Nothing has changed on either site since his physical back in September. He got the nom from our Congressman in December and seems, on paper, to be a competitive candidate. We are just itchy to find out where he is headed in the fall. He emailed his ALO and nothing definitive, just that the academy is making decisions and hopefully he'd hear soon. We are from NJ.

That’s really all you can do. My son wanted something added to his file (significant award) and was told his file had already been reviewed. Not sure when, but they’ve looked at it.
I think by this point the majority of appointments have been sent out. If you’ll remember a few weeks ago, there was a lot of buzz about Congressmen reaching out to let applicants know they received an appointment. That occurred several days before they were notified on their portal. I haven’t heard any of this advance notice recently.
In the end, we’ll all find out in a few weeks one way or the other. We’ve set a couple of college visits up next week and are fortunate to have solid backup plans.
All of that said, it’s not over yet. While I believe the majority of appointments are done, we all know they’re not finished yet. There will be more coming for sure, how many is TBD. My advice would be to get serious about other options, and get a very solid plan in place. Hopefully, we’ll get good news, but in any case, you’ve got great options if you need them.

Thanks! We have his Plan B ready to go, he's been accepted to all 10 schools he applied to and he narrowed down to two good options aside from the academy. Do you know when/if prep school decisions come?

I’m sorry, I don’t. Some have already been awarded as well as some Falcon Foundation Scholarships.
Sounds like you’re in great shape! Best of luck to you!
