USAFA Waiting Thread C/O 2027

It is one simple test that would take 4 hours of time to retake and add to that a dozen hours of prep that gets you to a level that actually stands out. After polishing your academic credentials if you then focused on your "weak" spots, your overall application (adding in the favorable effort of a reapplication) may turn the tide.

It makes no sense to me that there is an idea that 1400 is good enough. Those 1300s are probably the candidates that are superpowered elsewhere. The nationally ranked athletes etc. (I am not saying that our D1 athletes can't be tippy top students) Staying with a 1400 may have worked for you this time and you may have an appointment but it's easier IMHO to spend that 16 hours to have that pillar stand out than go become a national ranked athlete.
We're probably talking past each other (and for the record, I have no personal knowledge of the stats of anyone receiving an appointment, so it's not about what has worked for me or anyone else; all I know is what USAFA reports). I don't disagree with taking and retaking the SAT. The higher the better, by all means. My point is that I'm dubious that academics is always the obstacle to an appointment. Leadership, athletics/CFA, interviews, commitment to military service, etc. are all relevant. All that said, you may have better knowledge than I do on the topic.

Personally, I would value a 1430 on the first try more than a 1580 on the fifth try with a super score.
You may value that higher but in a Whole Person Multiple or Whole Candidate Score type system that I'm familiar with, it is the highest score that is "counted" and there aren't additional points for "one and done".

There are probably many candidates who have a 1580 on one try. So it's not just an either/or scenario. The fact is that no one except admissions knows how each candidate compares with one another. There are so many amazing students with high gpas, high test scores, leadership, athletics, etc. And that's the point--there are MANY candidates that fit this profile. There are too many qualified candidates for the number of spots, and is seems to be true for the service academies, competitive liberal arts colleges and state flagships.

For those of you who haven't heard anything back yet, in past years not hearing back on the 21st usually led to an appointment or prep offer a couple days after. Of course, this is no guarantee, and you could still end up with a TWE or on a waitlist, especially with how different this year has been. But if you still haven't heard back, you're still in the game. Don't give up hope until you hear back.

DD offered waitlist for direct appointment to usafa. Patience is a virtue!

" We are currently unable to offer you an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy or one of our preparatory programs. All our programs are currently full. However, should an opening become available we have determined that you would be an excellent candidate for direct entry to the Academy. Therefore, we are offering you the opportunity to be placed on our waitlist.

To secure your spot on our direct entry waitlist, click here to access the waitlist acceptance/declination site. Should you already have firm alternate plans and choose not to participate, please decline this offer so we can provide this possibility to someone else.

We must receive your response by 28 April 2023 to be considered. Should you not respond by the deadline, you will be removed from our direct entry waitlist and your application will be closed.

If you agree to be placed on the waitlist, we anticipate that you will know your final admission status by 15 May 2023. Right now, you should proceed with your alternate college plans since we don’t know if space will become available. If you are selected from the direct entry waitlist, we will provide you with further instructions and you must complete all requirements within one week of notification."

Once you accept an appointment the candidate kit is due by April 20 so if someone decided not to finish the kit it would open some spots

can someone help me on what falcon foundation waitlist entails and if there's a real chance to get off of it?
I would say maybe! I believe everyone has until May 1st to accept or decline their appointments, so you may hear something after May 1st. If someone declines sooner, you may hear before then! But this is a good thing!

Did anyone receive an actual appointment today? Or a TWE? Or does it seem today was all waitlists? My DS is out of town and hasn’t opened his yet. 🤪
