USAFA Waiting Thread C/O 2027

I think we may be waiting until May 1, or a few days after. Maybe they need to get more people declining before they can sort the assigned nomination piece of the puzzle? I'm being optimistic that they want you and my DS, they just haven't figured out the puzzle yet, and they need to move some pieces around until there is an available opening. I called admissions and they said that the deadline of April 21 was just to send out the TWEs.
I agree. My DD is on the USAFAPS waitlist. I spoke to my DD’s USAFA’s ALO for almost 2 hours the other night. Too much info to type but the bottom line was keep your hopes up and look to May 5th for more appointments.

My DS has a conditional offer of appointment to USAFA and his medical waiver has come through, so he now has to click that accept button by May 1. He also has a LOA from USNA but his waiver has not yet been processed. He's been holding out for USNA but will accept the USAFA appointment on decision day if he hasn't received the USNA waiver by then. Does anyone know what time the cutoff is on May 1? I'm sure it says in his portal, but I don't want to bother him with it and raise his anxiety... I just want to be able to quietly backstop him to ensure he doesn't miss the deadline come Monday...

Just have him accept on April 30th if he's heard nothing back from USNA by then. If USNA ends up accepting him later on, say May 15th, he can accept that and contact USAFA admissions to let them know he's not coming, they'll sort out the rest.

Reach out to USNA for an update.

I have a few questions - wondering if anyone might be able to help with some ideas :) 1. If you are on the FF waitlist (I read this waitlist is new this year) does anyone have an idea of what they think the chances might be of being selected, off the waitlist, for the FF Scholarship? 2. If you DO get selected off the waitlist for the FF scholarship and do well that first year at prep school, what are the chances of getting into the USAFA next year? 3. If you DO NOT receive the FF scholarship, and decide to go to one of the prep school as a free agent / self student, how likely is it that you will get into USAFA the next year (if you do well during your prep school year)?

1. If you are on the FF waitlist (I read this waitlist is new this year) does anyone have an idea of what they think the chances might be of being selected, off the waitlist, for the FF Scholarship?
Unfortunately, I don't think there is any information available about that.

2. If you DO get selected off the waitlist for the FF scholarship and do well that first year at prep school, what are the chances of getting into the USAFA next year?
Pretty high. The figure I've seen in ALO briefs is something like 91% 5-year success rate in earning an appointment and that includes people who voluntarily left the program.

3. If you DO NOT receive the FF scholarship, and decide to go to one of the prep school as a free agent / self student, how likely is it that you will get into USAFA the next year (if you do well during your prep school year)?
I don't have any intuition about that. From time to time there are self-reported appointments on this forum where the individual was a free agent/self student, but we don't know how many people go that route and not all of them report their success or failure.

For those who got accepted to prep or direct, have you received any forms/package to fill out?

1. Impossible to say.
2. About100%, assuming you follow through successfully.
3. Very good. If you self-prep at MMI or GMC in particular, you stand a very good chance. I would personally put your odds at 80% +/-.
But this is assuming you show improvement in all areas of the WCS concept. You will have to work extraordinarily hard from now until the first semester ends. And then for sure follow through in the spring next yr. You'll be with Sponsored Preps, who quite frankly, won't need to work quite as hard as you will. Though most will. It can be a bit tough being with the preps who already have the "golden ticket"....you'll have to accept that status. But perhaps find ways to be a leader by example.
Of course you'll still be applying to as many of the Service Academies as you wish, so you'll definitely have more to accomplish in that regard.
USAFA has basically said "you're what we want" , or "almost ready" with a FFS waitlist status. Use this for extra motivation. Don't give up on your dreams.
And importantly, don't over focus on your odds going into this. Take an attitude that you are going to OUTWORK THE ODDS! No matter what they are. They Love perseverance.

Almost May 1st! Hoping everyone that still has “Undecided” on the Appointment List will update their status to Accepted or Declined! Also looking forward to seeing that number increase! It’s currently at 122!

What number is at 122?

Sorry for all the questions but I am very new to this and trying to figure things out! I thought there were around 1400 appointments each year… also- how do you know the number?
The reference is to the annual threads in each SA forum here on SAF where people self-report their offers of appointment. Typically, by the end of each cycle, about 10-15% of the usual class size find SAF and post.

Sorry if this is off topic. I accepted a conditional appointment but will likely be unable to go due to medical. Should I still record my appointment on that thread? I couldn’t tell what the “rules” around that were exactly

The thread is intended for unencumbered offers of appointment, but it’s all voluntary sharing here, and some share just a bit early. I hope your medical clears and your conditional offer becomes a full offer, and we get to see your decision.
