Hello, Everyone. I wanted to reach out and see how long USAFA normally takes to decide if they will pursue a waiver of not. I know that the 2024 candidate handbook says that if my file is completed and I am competitive for an appointment they will consider a waiver. My file has been complete without a nomination yer for almost 2 weeks. I wanted to know a general timeframe the members of this forum have had on waiting for a decision to see if USAFA was going to pursue a waiver or not. Side note, I have a MOC nomination interview on Dec 7th.

It really is tough to compare timeframes.

For USNA the start of the waiver process was almost immediate for my son. But that is because his file was already complete with LOA and nom well before he did the physical. He knew his physical was going to DQ him with colorblindness .. so he wanted them to be interested in him before the DQ.

I assume that it could have taken a longer time if the physical was done months earlier.

My DS is also in the same position you are, but he has a JROTC nom. I read here somewhere that USAFA likes to wait for a MOC nom, so maybe that's true?? Fingers crossed for your interview. DS had his three last weekend. I'll let you know if he gets a waiver request after the hopeful nom comes in.

@Nms6402 Can't see them requesting a waiver for a candidate who does not have a nomination at this time of year. Maybe next year when they're reviewing the NWL for Supt./VPOTUS appointments.

Just one person's situation, but my son completed his essays (last item on the USAFA app) two days before his deadline. The next day, Oct. 31, he got a letter in his portal saying a waiver was being requested for him (DQ came through two weeks earlier). Additional exams were requested as well as full medical records related to his condition. No LOA or any other fancy letter. No nomination yet - they are not coming out until Dec. in our district/state.

Pretty surprised as his DQ is eye-related and USAFA was always his third/last choice academy because of our perception the eye situation would make it harder both for admissions and for a waiver but USAFA was first out of the gate with a waiver request. Currently under review after additional tests and records provided last week.

If the status is under Waiver review after submitting AMI, then is there nothing that I can do except just waiting?

This is just my first rodeo but I don't see anything else folks who have submitted AMI can do but to wait. If it drags on for months I would encourage my son to followup but he is only at the one week after AMI right now.

@Wishful One thing I would like to point out is my district are just now starting notifications for interviews. The interview I have been selected for first, and the only date is Dec 7th, which I have been invited to attend.
