USCGA 2020 appointments

Congratulations, Sarahs43. And that is really good advice.

Found out I was admitted today! I'm a recruit and the coach called me and informed me I was selected for appointment. Apparently it's a tough year for CGA so they're really a stickler for all the points - leadership, initiative, desire to serve, motivation, and good academics. My ACT composite (math + English) was ~29 and I have a GPA of ~3.6 and take all IB/AP classes; I also continuously reached out to my admissions officer to get my mid-year transcript in and make sure everything was in correctly. I also did the optional essay and uploaded a resume, as well as an interview. I think I can attribute my admission to just being really proactive and displaying my desire to attend the school...I suggest anyone else who is nervously awaiting a decision to just show that you really do want to go to the school, introduce yourself to your AO and if you were unsure of whether or not getting senior year grades/mid-year transcript in mattered or not (it does) ask, or just inquire to see if they want to see anything else in your application, or if they need you to improve anything (PFE, test scores, etc.) The AOs will never know otherwise and assume you're not as interested as others - initiative really does make a difference.
Congratulations to you!!! Great Job.

Just checked my portal. Unfortunately I did not get in. Really sad day. Been dreaming of this for years.

Lurker and FG&C, reapplicants tend to do well. Do a year in college, with courses similar to what is offered first year at CGA. Do well. Be involved in sports, and so on. Consider a prep school which will also give you college credit for your classes.

I really would like to reapply, but I feel that since I will be going to a community college that they will not accept me. Also i do not see where my app could really improve(not trying to sound pretentious), so I emailed my AO to see what she thinks I did wrong.

I'm sorry to hear that. When did you turn in your app? Did you do DoDMERB? Do you think a wave of rejections went out? What state are you from?

Thanks for the encouragement! We applied to MMI several weeks ago anticipating this outcome and are very excited about taking the self-prep route. We know he will be better for the experience and will be in a better position for an appointment.

DS checked portal as well and did not get in. Loved his reaction: "I did my best and it was not enough this year. It was not part of God's plan for me at this time. I'm going to ask for feedback and try again next year." That was the silver lining for me...
Was his checklist already checked saying completed CCEB? Was his notifications in the message section? Trying to figure out when notifications happen, what my DS should be looking for. He has been checking every day and his CCEB is still not checked so we are just wondering. Sorry for the not so good news.

Lurker, it doesn't matter what school you attend. Community college is fine. Just choose courses that mimic the first year at CGA. Then own them.

FG&C, my son did MMI as part of CGAS, so I can answer so questions parents might have. He is now 2/c. A couple of his classmates were self-preps there. Physicsguru posts here, and is a professor at MMI. He can give more general advice.

For me, I logged on and all the previous checked boxes were gone and there was only one left. It was the CCEB box and it had a check in it this time. It also had a link next to it that I clicked to see the decision of the admissions board. Down below is exactly what it looked like.

Jan 5 is when I hit submit. I completed my DoDMERB and they just recently requested more info, which was sent to them 2 days ago. I do think a wave of rejections went out. I am still hoping it is an error haha(really unlikely). I am from VA. Its really weird because they seemed to have sent out quite a few rejections, but no acceptance letters, which is reversed from how it usually is.

Thanks for the information. Wishing you luck.

Check your Bears Den Accounts. About 90 new appointments released. If you haven't heard one way or the other yet, there is still time and hope. Hang in there.

Congratulations to all of those who received Appointments!

As a follow up to the above question, if the portal is not showing a decision, does that mean that the application has not been reviewed yet, or that it was reviewed and was not given an acceptance?

Congrats to those 90!

I guess DS still has to hang in there......oh the nerves! He will hopefully find out what the remedial is tomorrow.

@grevar How many appointments are left at this point, and have many people been notified if rejected?

No way to answer this question at this point as candidates have until May 1 to accept. An Appointment doesn't mean that person has accepted. Not all reviews have been completed yet, still appointments left to be issued.

If you haven't heard one way or the other you are still in the mix. Try to be patient and hang in there. I know it's tough!

Has the cga ever accidentally sent out a rejection letter by mistake? And then corrected that mistake
