USCGA 2020 appointments

He submitted on about the last day he could. Everything was in for months ahead of time except for his PT Test. He was working hard after football to drop weight and get faster.
From what I have heard from others, I do not think it really matters when you submit as far as when you get reviewed. Heresay, but I am fairly certain it is not an ominous sign. There have been acceptances coming in from candidates that submitted early and late, seems random.

i think that was F15DOC's AIM app from last year. Looks like app might have been According to our DD's AO, date isn't a big factor. But I think that it's been weeks now since we were informed it was up for review. Not having heard anything we are guessing waitlist, or maybe firmly on the bubble for the last few spots. I thought that it was a review, then decision pretty soon thereafter. But that wasn't our experience.

Ours was submitted 11/23; DD has settled on two Plan B's to choose from since we are assuming no acceptance. If for some reason an acceptance pops into Bear's Den then great. If not, I appreciate all the info everyone here has provided and wish everyone luck during swab summer. It is going to be a long day.

What are everyone's thoughts on whether it matters what day your application was fully submitted? @F15DOC It looks as though your DS was submitted 3/31. If our DS was submitted 12/2 and has heard nothing, do we dare to assume that this is a bad sign - or do you all think the process has nothing to do with that? Thoughts? Give some noise today - it's going to be a long one for us all!!
In our high school there are three kids who have applied to AFA, the one is Valedictorian, over 4. in GPA high SAt and ACT takes all AP courses, runs cross country and does track and field, Team captain, he does a lot of volunteer work for habitat for humanity as well as other service type jobs, he is a life guard, He is in band, and has made state band two years in a row, the only student to ever do so. NHS, He had his app in first and early, he has not heard.

My DD 9th in her class, swimmer, serves as round table rep for her swim team at school, team captain, swims club as well, hours of practice 15 a week 5000-7000 yards a day in the water, she serves on a board with two other athletes and represents 7000 athletes for our region. Over 4. GPA high scores SAT

The third student just got his appointment, great kid, 15th in their class, have no idea of his GPA or SAT scores, he doesn't play a sport, he does a lot of volunteer work through his church. His app whet in 2nd, he has gotten an appointment this month. His dad retired AF officer.

That page will show both the old AIM from last year and the actual Academy App. I think it shows he submitted on 10-29-15.

Whoa - so helpful. So, no solid way of knowing (as everyone keeps saying, but I keep waking up thinking, "today we'll crack the code!" haha. My DS is a swimmer - he dreams of swimming for Coach Westkott. Here's to hoping they can be team mates one day!

The "Randomness" of appointments is confusing and frustrating, we know so many kids in our region that have such seemingly random appointments. I see them on here as well. One will get denied by USAFA/USCGA and accepted by USNA, another will get denied by USMA/USNA and get accepted to USAFA.... it is so dependant on things we don't know or see. What is that particular academy looking for this year, what are the regional applicant loads, what is the diversity spread, etc etc etc.
In Wesley's case he was denied by USAFA early on as he was still quite heavy (6' 235#)and his run times were pretty slow when their application closed. Then the USNA declined him, as it turns out there are several local kids that are going to the USNA this year, including his classmate (#1 class, president, etc). And as we are losing hope, bam, in comes the one we all really wanted, the USCGA. It exciting, frustrating and unnerving all at the same time. I can tell you that he was already looking forward to and making plans for Washington State University, and he was looking at ROTC... you just don't know, until you know!

So many amazing young adults (with obviously incredible families), and they will continue to be amazing and serve their communities well no matter where they go to college.
Have consistently been told by CG from several visits to regional ports, the academy, AO, and cadre that it is a very holistic selection that balances everything about the candidate and life beyond the Academy. The past year's events and CG Academy application process has positively changed our DDs life. For that we are blessed and grateful. Wishing you all peace and acceptance as the next 24 hours unfolds.

well said and so true! One of our coaches wanted AFA he was turned down, accepted at USNA while there he got the call from AFA so he left USNA that was years ago. This ride is hard, I tell my DD when things get tough you can remember how you thought you weren't getting it and how that was killing you, that should help you make t it through..... still waiting....

We also had a January email that review was coming, and we expected a decision soon after, but are still waiting. I hope that it truly is random! To me, part of what makes a CGA denial hard is that there does not really seem to be another good option or "Plan B" for getting into the CG. Whereas other branches have ROTC programs, the opportunities for CG seem much more limited.

I agree on the randomness being frustrating and the process being holistic doesn't help. Most of these kids would do just about anything if A + B + C = appointment. But that isn't how it works, and with a class as small as USCGA brings in, there isn't going to be answers for those who don't get an appointment. Remember that for quite a few a waitlist offer will be coming as well, so the stress of the past few months will be extending into May.

For those I would suggest the wait and be optimistic. Obviously set up a Plan B, but with the level of student USCGA attracts, those with appointments with have choices including other academies. Spots will shake free come May 1.

Wooohooo!!! Congrats to you all! Still nothing here for us. My DS's little brother is upset because it looks like Operation April Fools Day may have to be put aside this year. It's his FAVORITE day, but I'm not sure if it'll be the best day ever or the worst day ever... Please post if anyone else hears anything. MaggieMae - what time did you see the change on your portal? I'd love to know my DS could check it once a day instead. =) So happy for you guys!!
We checked several times yesterday but his portal finally changed around 4:30 yesterday afternoon. It seems like I remember someone like Grevar or Objee say that they try to wait until kids were out of school for the day to post decisions. My DS page did not look like what DOC had screenshot. His whole checklist was still there but the CCEB box was finally checked. DS hit the submit on 1/11/16. He had pretty much everything done except for the PFE. He was in wrestling and his wrestling coach was the one who administered the test so trying to get a block of time between matches and practice to do the test was a little difficult. Everything else was submitted in November and he received his DODMERB stuff on December 10th.

Great info! Thank you so much! We'll check back in around dinner time and go about our day otherwise... Thank you thank you for sharing!

DS checked his portal this morning (went to bed at 5:30 PM last night because he was sick) and received his "declined" at 9 AM.
Thankful now we know which direction to take and move---- University of Georgia and Air Force Reserves.

He will be graduating HS in about 6 weeks and will be highly decorated (sashes, ropes and metals) walking across that stage with 13 college credits already under his belt, and it was because for the past two years, he had put an extreme amount of effort into himself, both academically and physically after attending AIM two years ago and seeing what it was all about.

Good Luck to those who are still waiting! TOMORROW will be IT!!!!!!!!!!

Oh no... God has a plan... I am sure this is part of that, as hard as it seems. Good luck to your DS. He'll do GREAT THINGS!!!!

I am so sorry...but your can-do spirit speaks volumes about your DS and your family. Thank you for sharing this journey with us and letting us know.

Actually, CSPI will pay for the last year or two of college, while paying you a salary plus housing allowance. We are balancing on pins and needles waiting for USCGA news, but daughter earned an Associates of General Studies while in HS, through duel credit program, so two years will get her a diploma. If she is not accepted at academy, she has been accepted at a CSPI program school and will start the CSPI application to be considered for the next fall. She is studying computer programming right now, so she will have an internship until she starts college again.
