USCGA 2021 Appointments

wait listed, the weird part is the letter in bears den says: "The Cadet Candidate Evaluation Board has completed its review of all Early Action applicants and decided to offer you a place on our wait list for an appointment to the Class of 2021." He wasn't an Early Action applicant. Probably just semantics.

Same letter for my DS and he wasn't EA this year either. Must have been a form letter that was also used for EA waitlist and updating the wording for that sentence was missed.

Very sad to see all of your announcements. For those on the waitlist, it is NOT over!
My DS waitlisted EA. Still wondering if we will hear anything prior to May 1. Offered AFROTC Scholarship and needs to accept by May 1. Hoping we'll hear soon after RA decisions. Any way of checking on this?

Appointments have to accept by May 1st. After that date wait listed are notified.

Thank you, that is what I thought, however email from Admissions indicated that "commonly outreach to applicants appointed off the wait list with a phone call followed up with an e-mail directing them to an online decision letter similar to your wait list notification letter. " Wasn't sure if that would happen anytime sooner. We will assume it won't be until after May 1, but will still hope.....

There was at least one EA waitlister on here that received an appointment recently and that's just someone who happened to post something, who knows if there are others. I wouldn't make a decision based on the guessing of others on here- talk to your admissions officer for the facts.

1. Wait list appointments happen. I've seen it every year at my school. Sometimes it's only one, one year I had four. Earliest offer I saw was mid-April, while last year a student was offered a week before R-Day.

2. Wait list appointmets to CGAS happen. There are anywhere from 50-70 CGAS students in a given year, depending on budget. The wait list pool would be proportionally smaller. Again, I've seen waitlisters get CGAS appointments each year.

3. That being said, now is the time to execute the alternate plans. If the appointment comes through, you might be out a deposit, but the family saves money in the long run.

4. In addition, consider if you want to make another try at CGA. If so, make sure you take the hard courses: the highest math you can place into, chemistry, composition, and perhaps general physics. Retake the SAT/ACT at least two more times each. You want to demonstrate growth in the college environment.

5. Which school is up to you. There are dedicated prep schools which are excellent in the pure academics, military junior colleges that earn college credit which can transfer and an academy environment, local community colleges that give an excellent base for a good price, and four year colleges and universities which offer the bachelor degrees. There's lots of information on the forum and online that discuss the pros and cons of each path.

6. Look at alternate commissioning programs. MARGRAD, CSPI, OCS and others are all available. Remember, once you have the commission, it's all how well you do the job assigned. I have a former student who went from deck officer on a buoy tender to (prospective) captain of a 110' cutter.

My DD, RA was wait listed. As coming off wait list will not happen until May 1st. She will have to accept her plan B school no later than May 1st. Hope the rest of you get better news.
The Scholars Program requires acceptance notification by April 1. I believe your DD may be notified sooner than May 1 if she gets pulled off the Scholars wait list.
Wait so CGAS Candidates have to accept or decline by tomorrow? Where in the website does it say that...I thought it was may 1st?

Your correct it is May 1. For some reason the conditional appointment letter given to my DS said April 1, but once his medical cleared and he was offered a full appointment to Scholars with an updated letter it now says May 1.

Are there RA applicants still waiting to hear, or has everyone been notified???
