As many of us have just received news of being waitlisted, I figured I would make a thread where we can comment on updates. Perhaps we can format it similarly to the appointment thread (Or maybe not??--moderators feel free to object):

1. SAF forum name / Self, DD, DS / Accepted, Declined (waitlist offer) / still waiting, offered appointment on ##/##/####.

If this makes sense, I'll start it off:

1. MuniMan24 / Self /Accepted / still waiting

I also did a few searches for info on past waitlists and found some interesting posts by Objee. Hopefully they are informative.

There are approximately 150 applicants currently on the wait list. Unfortunately, there is no way to know how many appointments we will be able to offer to wait list applicants this year because that number is determined by: 1) How many appointments are offered during Regular Admission...those reviews are still in progress; and 2) How many applicants offered appointments during Early Action/Regular Admission decline their spot in the class...they have until May 1st to make that decision. As far as I know, we have always been able to tender at least some appointments to applicants on the wait list; however, it's impossible to know how many until early May.

The slightly larger wait list this year is primarily based on a slightly larger incoming class. There were approximately 125 applicants offered a spot on the wait list for the Class of 2017...incoming class size of 235. There are approximately 150 applicants on the wait list for the Class of 2018...incoming class size of 250.

Class of 2014 - Approximately 640 Alternates, 64 Appointments (Wait List did not exist)
Class of 2015 - Approximately 480 Alternates, 54 Appointments (Wait List did not exist)
Class of 2016 - Approximately 100 Wait List, 26 Appointments
Class of 2017 - Approximately 125 Wait List, 43 Appointments
Class of 2018 - Approximately 150 Wait List, XX Appointments

If you believe that you can "deduce" from this data how many appointments will be offered to applicants on the wait list this year, you're welcome to do so; however, I say again it's going to depend upon: 1) How many appointments are tendered during Regular Admission; and 2) How many applicants offered appointments during Early Action/Regular Admission decline their spot in the class.

First I must say Objee is a wonderful resource! My DD was also wait listed for the class of 2021. Please be aware of time regarding plan B and C. Do not risk losing those opportunities as you wait. My DD had to accept Plan B. Remember you can get appointed from the wait list. But that number is small. Best of luck to all on wait lists!

From our experience, some will get last minute appointments and it’s important to keep in mind that being on the waitlist is exactly that. Make your interest level updates when asked and be prepared for last minute changes. It’s a marathon but in our case, it was a last minute sprint to the finish.

A couple of questions on this years waitlist process - will any appointments happen from the waitlist between now and the big May 1 date? I saw, for example, a decline on the appt thread today. Also, has anyone heard how large this years waitlist is? It appeared to me that no appointments were made Apr 1 based on forum traffic - seems all RA appts came a week prior and only declines and waitlists for Apr1. Best to everyone hoping for a shot at 2023.

Anything is possible. Keep in mind that just because someone declined an appointment does not mean someone will be added off the waitlist. Every college, including the academies, admit more kids than they know will accept. They anticipate that a certain percentage of kids will decline an appointment, and with the academies, a certain number who won't be cleared medically. Last year, I think the number of offers of admission was 380ish for a class of 280ish. You are unlikely to see any movement off the waitlist until after acceptances are finalized and DODMERB waivers get processed, so admissions knows what kind of numbers they are dealing with and the makeup of the class.

The applicant handbook says:

"Approximately 75-100 applicants who are not selected for an appointment by April 1st will be offered a spot on our wait list. Your record will be reviewed again following the May 1st appointment acceptance/declination deadline if you accept your spot on the wait list and update your file with an official transcript showing your most recent grades by May 1st. While some applicants will be immediately appointed from the wait list during the first week of May, additional appointments are often offered to wait list applicants through early June - the result of late medical disqualifications or appointment declinations."

Thus, I do not believe anyone will be hearing until the first week of May. Hang tight!

I agree regarding May 1st for those on the wait list. Some got appointments 3 before R day. My DD had to accept a full 4 year Scholarship no later than April 15. She was not pulled off wait list.

Will you send the link to the applicant handbook please?[/QUOTE]

It was on the application link in the portal, but I cannot access that since the application is closed. Maybe someone else has the document downloaded?

Sorry about that.

So if you’re waitlisted then you have been deemed fully qualified for an appointment to the Academy. So why would the academy consider applicants with pending waivers while they have candidates that are ready to go that are on the waitlist?? Does the number of appointments relate back to a geographic area quota for each state? Curious.

Has anyone on the waitlist receive an offer to attend prep school? Or are waitlisted applicants over qualified To attend prep school?

Because they like the people they made offers to better, assuming they get cleared medically. There is no "fully qualified" status at CGA - they get to pick and choose who they want for whatever reason they want.

There is no geographic requirement for CGA, although they try to be representative.

When it comes to moving people around anything is possible and probably has happened at some point, but there is a separate waiting list for CGAS, so the chances of a kid on the appointment waitlist would be offered CGAS aren't likely, or they would be on the CGAS waitlist instead.

There is no geographic requirement, however, there are definitely quotas that must be fulfilled.
