USCGA Class of 2026 Appointment Thread- Self Updating

Just out of curiosity can you elaborate on your statement “75% of the kids out there who claim they are being recruited aren’t being recruited either.” When you say that, are you referring to the CGA specifically or all colleges. Also can you explain where you heard this or why you believe it. I’m not arguing or questioning your judgment. I’m just curious.
Referring to recruitment generally, not at CGA. And the 75% is a rough approximation based on years of exposure to the process. Even amongst kids who are being recruited by some schools, there are lies and exaggerations about their contacts and interactions with higher level schools. It’s part of the process, unfortunately.

New to all this (applying to service academies and being a sport recruit) and we are also a little confused by what constitutes “being recruited for athletics” at USCGA. DD has applied early action and received an email from the coach letting her know her application is coming up for review and offering to submit a letter of support to her application. We are assuming this is a good sign that IF she is offered an appointment she will be asked to join the team…. Hoping our naive interpretation is correct.

On the track topic of recruiting, if I already submitted my application a few weeks ago on the 15th for EA, is it to late to try and get recruited? I didn’t completely understand the process beforehand. I just submitted the recruitment form online and wanted advice if I should take it a step further and email the coach.
If it’s not to late and you think I should still email the coach, what should I say? Should I directly ask to be recruited or just mention that I applied to CGA early action and would love to continue playing my sport?

How will I find out if I received an appointment or not?
At the very least your Bear's Den will update, but some people also get calls from coaches or Admissions.

EDIT: It's really worth going back and reading this thread from years past. A cadence usually develops when calls can be expected, you hear about what day of the week the boards meet, and other news from the kitchen.

Not sure what OP did, but when my son (current 4/C) was going through the process, he filled out the recruiting questionnaire on the Academy website (Under the “Athletics” tab, there is a choice for “Recruit Me.”). He had to enter event times (he’s a runner) and I don’t know what else. A day or two later, a coach emailed him in response to his questionnaire and they started corresponding and then later talking about his Academy goals and his current training regimen, but their conversations were not just about sports, the coach wanted to know about academics too. My son told the coach about his grades, test scores, leadership, class rank, etc. and the coach encouraged him to apply EA. My son had also previously been in contact with his AO who had also encouraged him to apply EA irrespective of any athletics so he felt pretty good about his application. It was the coach who initially advised my son of his appointment (followed a few hours later by a call from the AO). My son kept in touch with the coach for the remainder of his senior year, telling him about his times as he competed. Anyway, in the absence of another lead, if you’ve got a prospective student interested in being a recruited athlete, I’d recommend starting with the “Recruit Me” button.
Same process for my son for football. Also included a game day visit, a few calls from the coach and a visit over the summer.

In regards to acceptance notifications, do they wait to post a message in your bears den until Dec. 23rd if you are being rejected or moved to RA? Or do they communicate those decisions as they make them? Thanks!

If it's like last year's cycle, they will wait. At least that's how I remember it. You can search back to postings from that time to be sure, but I think people started getting that kind of notification (deferred to RA, denials, CGAS offers) a few days before the EA notification deadline - maybe around 12/21.

I applied during EA last year and was notified on Dec. 21st that I would be deferred to RA. It may be different for this year, but a deferral notice will probably be pretty close to the Dec. 23rd notification deadline.

DS found his acceptance letter in his account tonight, no call first. He’s a recruited athlete and had an LOA.
