It is that time of the year! Time to start the 2026 USCGA Appointment Thread as some LOAs are being drafted, applications are coming in, DoDMERB hurdles are being tackled and the list begins.

*Thanks to @Capt MJ for this format as they have all the points covered:*

HOW TO ADD YOUR INFORMATION -- this is self-reporting, self-updating do-it-yourself list. Here is how it works: copy the most recent list, paste into a new post, add a line at the bottom with the next appointment number, enter your info in a similar format as below, and then post. Update as needed by the same process of copying the most recent list into a new post and updating whatever information as needed. time! Please report your USCGA Class of 2026 Appointments!

General suggestions/guidance:

- Resist posting until there is an offer
of appointment in hand/portal and you have certainty.
- If you have an LOA, sit tight, wait until you have an actual offer of appointment. You will know it when you see it.
- “Direct” is usually taken to mean right from high school.

HOW TO ADD A NAME: This is DIY self-reporting and self-updating the full list. Mods don't update the list. Kindly posters occasionally do, but the burden falls on posters to copy the list, add their entry and post the updated list. Ditto for later edits from Undecided and then re-posting the entire updated list.

HOW TO CREATE UPDATED LIST:
Method 1, on the full website:
Copy the most recent list, paste into your new post, use the next number, enter your info in a similar format, post. If you don’t do this, and just post an entry and not the updated list, you risk the next poster updating the last list, the one without your name, and leaving you stranded and off the list.

Method 2, works well on mobile site on a smartphone:
Start a new post by quoting the most recent complete list. Delete the “quote stuff” at the beginning and end of the list. You now have a complete all-text list that will not act like a Quote. At the end of that list, choose the next number and add your entry. Post.

Don’t forget to go back and update Undecideds! Same methods as above, just edit your original entry

FORMAT for New Entry:

Next appointment number) SAF forum name / Self, DD, DS / Date of Appointment Notification / Accepted or Declined or Undecided / State / Sponsored Prep, Self-Prep, College Re-applicant, Direct (appoint from HS), or Enlisted / LOA or No LOA

SAMPLE ENTRY:

1) 2024Bearr / Self / 12/10/2020 / Accepted

Congratulations to all appointees!

How soon do people start to hear from the Coast Guard Academy? And has anyone heard yet or have a conditional appointment? Thanks! I applied and submitted my application October 1st!

11/9 was the date the first appointee noted last year, I think. So it should be any time. Good luck!

I was hoping to see some first appointees by now since last year some were appointed by now. My DGD is really excited about the USCGA and USNA.

May actually be jumping the gun a smidge; DD just got a call from the coach telling her she is in, but haven't received official notice from Admissions yet.

It’s always prudent to wait for the actual offer of appointment from Admissions for the purpose of these lists. That’s the only offer that counts and the one she will accept in her portal. I would think you have reliable information, but it’s not staring at her authentically from her portal yet.

How was she recruited by the coach? Just not sure exactly what CGA recruiting looks like? Thanks!
Not sure what OP did, but when my son (current 4/C) was going through the process, he filled out the recruiting questionnaire on the Academy website (Under the “Athletics” tab, there is a choice for “Recruit Me.”). He had to enter event times (he’s a runner) and I don’t know what else. A day or two later, a coach emailed him in response to his questionnaire and they started corresponding and then later talking about his Academy goals and his current training regimen, but their conversations were not just about sports, the coach wanted to know about academics too. My son told the coach about his grades, test scores, leadership, class rank, etc. and the coach encouraged him to apply EA. My son had also previously been in contact with his AO who had also encouraged him to apply EA irrespective of any athletics so he felt pretty good about his application. It was the coach who initially advised my son of his appointment (followed a few hours later by a call from the AO). My son kept in touch with the coach for the remainder of his senior year, telling him about his times as he competed. Anyway, in the absence of another lead, if you’ve got a prospective student interested in being a recruited athlete, I’d recommend starting with the “Recruit Me” button.

Many years people also include their state and their major. However, it is up to the class of 2026 to decide what their list looks like.
Yes - it’s nice to see where folks are coming from and what they’ll be majoring in. Though as you say, the incoming class will need to decide for themselves.

Thank you so much. I have been in email contact with the coach quite a few times, sent videos and met during AIM. I honestly am not sure if that communication is considered being recruited or if the coach had to attend an event to feel recruited. I told the coach I was applying for EA, but I was not necessarily encouraged to do that by the coach. Thanks again for the input.

If you were being recruited, you would know it. The coach would be providing direction on when to submit your application, and would let you know they want you and are supporting your application. Absent that kind of contact, you aren’t being recruited. Don’t feel bad though. 75% of the kids out there who claim they are being recruited aren’t being recruited either.

Just out of curiosity can you elaborate on your statement “75% of the kids out there who claim they are being recruited aren’t being recruited either.” When you say that, are you referring to the CGA specifically or all colleges. Also can you explain where you heard this or why you believe it. I’m not arguing or questioning your judgment. I’m just curious.
