If an athlete was recruited to play an a USCGA team, and after the first year decided they didn't want to play anymore.... Works there be any consequences?. They wouldn't be forcef to continue to play that sport.... Would they?.

Just curious.

My DD wants to talk to a coach about playing one sport, but if after one year her grades suffer, she wants to know if she would have the option to stop playing to concentrate on academics.

They can drop the sport at any time. DD did her sport the first year and then decided not to participate the next year and changed sports.

The majority of the 4Cs will see their grades suffer the first year. Many will have to be in mandatory tutoring on their off season and during season. It’s a good conversation to have with your coach. Retention rate of their players, academic success, and how they deal with a player who finds them self struggling??

You are not going to be forced to play the next year. But if you find yourself struggling you might not find yourself still enrolled. If a coach recruited you, you can bet this weighed heavy on you getting the appointment. To me that’s a gentlemen’s agreement to maintain your grades well enough, be on the team and follow through to the very end.

Also if a cadets grades start slipping beyond a certain threshold, the cadet will be required to miss practice and attend study halls. When the grades improve, they go back to the sport.
