I received a conditional appointment to USCGA. I was just informed yesterday that I need to undergo additional tests for my (disqualifying conditions) poor eyesight and mild allergy to walnuts.
Does anyone know if the Coast Guard Academy is more lenient that other service academies in terms of handing out waivers?
Does anyone know of appointees that have gotten a waiver for similar if not the same medical conditions?

DD received waiver for peanut allergy (no life-threatening anaphylactic reaction) last year, but had a vision anomaly cause her disqualification during Swab Summer. Applied for readmission, received conditional appointment, now awaiting waivers again. Hang in there and get your remedials and tests done and back to DoDMERB ASAP! Also have a "Plan B" in place.

Was your daughter ever given an epipen for her allergy to peanuts?

Elementary school demanded she keep one in the nurses office. Sat there and expired every year. Never used one.

Got all my remedials and tests done. Just waiting to hear back now. This wait is even more brutal than the wait for the conditional appointment. Attending is just within grasp, but it could very easily slip away for something I have no control over.

We feel your pain! This is a marathon, not a sprint. Hang in there and focus on things you can control, and know that you're good enough for CGA regardless of the medical outcome you can't control.

I wear contact lenses and my left eye is -8.00 while my right eye is -6.50. The doctor noted that there were no abnormalities or damage to my eyes.

Assuming your astigmatism isn't bad (it's the 2nd set of numbers on your contact lenses prescription (ie cylinders)), then you appear to be within the waiverable range.

You probably had the back of your eye (retina) looked at closely for any pathology like holes and tears. High myopes like you have a higher prevalence retinal pathology. Based on what you're telling me ref: what your doctor noted, then you appear to be ok on that end too.

Blood draw. Never found out the result. She could gut out an ingestion test if given the opportunity.
