Hello, I am currently applying to the USCGA class of 2025 and immediately saw the height and weight standards. I am 65 inches tall and the USCG standard I found said the maximum weight was 165 lbs. I am a very built person and am currently 190. My question is will I immediately be disqualified and/or not considered or can I get a waiver? My BMI is well under the maximum percentage and I do very well on the CFA.

Yeah I think they will dq you and then you can get a waiver. Based off what you just said I can't image it would be very hard to get one, especially when they have heavy football players coming in every year.

The best answer is the source. Contact your admissions officer and let them know. They would be able to give you advice straight from admissions.

You will not get a waiver for being overweight. Waivers are only granted for being underweight. However if you cannot meet the Height & Weight requirements by weight they will conduct a tape test to calculate your body fat percentage. The maximum body fat percentage for males is 22%. My son went through this to secure his CGAS appointment.

My son was officially “overweight” on the initial dodmerb physical, but he is extremely fit/athletic. He was sent an email asking him to go to a doctor to take some other measurements (neck, waist) and this gave a better idea of body fat and Dodmerb said he was cleared. He didn’t need a waiver, he was cleared before ever needing one. If it puts your mind at ease search for the measurements online and you’ll get better idea of where you are truly at - US Navy body fat calculator.

DoDMERB doesn't DQ for weight unless there's and underlying medical condition. Wt standards are administrative and the responsibility/authority of Admissions :wiggle:

Our honor and privilege to serve 😁
