USMA Admissions Officer - AMA!

Same question as jrice, I would assume after the 4/15 cutoff for medical, offers that are currently held open waiting medical waivers will be dropped, and additional candidates 3q will fill those openings, then essentially the class will be filled up, except for those that decline offers? One final question would be approximately how many are still in the running, that have not received TWE, vs approximately how many slots are left?
That is the question.

In addition to this, do cadets have to extend their contract to have a chance at branching aviation?

It looks like this got skipped over. The option to BRADSO exists for Aviation which is volunteering to serve an additional three years in return for branching what you want.

Regardless of BRADSO, Aviation LTs pick up an additional service obligation upon completion of flight school. It runs concurrently to your college ADSO, but ranges from an additional 8-10 years depending on airframe (using service obligation discussed for future classes from our branch chief. Previous years were a 6-8 year additional obligation)

Is the class of 2024 full, or are appointments still being offered?
Appointments are still being offered. If you haven't received a TWE, you're still in contention (rule of thumb).

Fan of your youtube channel. I've been admitted for the class of 2024 and I always wondered why we had to get nominations from senators or presidents. I've done zero research into why this is the cause but I have a few guesses. Considering that the taxpayer burden that the taxpayers have to endure considering that each cadet costs 400,000, it would make sense if it were representatives of the taxpayers who chose the cadets that would be the recipients of those tax dollars in the form of their education. What's your take on it? Also, why is it that so much of the application is focused on grades and test scores? I had good grades and I think it's a big reason why I was accepted but I personally think things like leadership and athletics are more valuable, although they're a bit harder to measure.

Senators and Congressmen represent the taxpayer

I am a little confused as to how to apply for a Presidential nomination. My parent furnished the statement of service and it is ready to be send, but I am not sure how to send it. I have seen the form from the candidate portal and have filled it out, but once that is completed where/how do I send it to West Point?

I am also awaiting a answer from West Point still. I have not received a 3Q letter nor a TWE. But, my RC thanked me for getting through my application and medical not last minute. Soooooo..... that is my position currently. I though I would share because it is a little different then the others who have received a 3Q letter in their portal.

Hey everyone,

I hope you're all staying safe and healthy during this turbulent time.

I know it's been awhile since I've posted on here but wanted to make myself available to answer any questions you might have. My name is First Lieutenant Tuan Le and I am an Admissions Officer at the United States Military Academy at West Point. I personally manage the Southeast region but I am open to helping all candidates (or redirecting you to the right resource/person).

Short intro on me -- I graduated from West Point in 2016 and majored in EV Science/Engineering/Pre-Med. Prior to attending West Point, I attended the University of Minnesota and served as a combat medic (68W) in the Minnesota National Guard. While at West Point, I was accepted into medical school (but deferred my acceptance to serve on Active Duty) and commissioned as a Medical Service Corps (MS) officer. I've been in positions as a medical platoon leader, battalion medical operations officer, and an environmental science engineering officer (ESEO). I was stationed at Fort Riley (Kansas), Fort Sam Houston (Texas), and more recently at West Point (New York). I also did a rotation out to Europe in Poland and Germany.

If you would like to learn more about the admissions process, cadet life, medical/grad school, active duty life or connect with other candidates, cadets, old grads -- feel free to PM me for more information.

I look forward to connecting with you all soon! Good luck on your academic pursuit and thank you for your commitment to serving our country.

Will USMA modify the 2020-2021 schedule due to COVID 19? Specifically, will R-Day be moved? Or do you still plan to have R-Day on June 29?

Thanks, from a mom of an appointee to the class of 2024

hopefully you mean for 2025. The address is on the top left on the form. Mail it there and you will receive a letter confirming receipt a few weeks later.

Last month my admissions officer notified me that my medical waiver for a vision disqualification was denied. I am currently a college freshman and am in an Army ROTC program, and the waiver my ROTC program requested for the same disqualification was granted. When I applied to USMA last year I was told that medical decisions are based on Army medical standards as the end goal of USMA is commissioning as an Army Officer. However, it appears that USMA and ROTC have different medical standards. Do you know why this might be?

Each program has their own waiver authorities and waive to the programs/Service needs, Not uncommon to have different decisions within the same Service. :wiggle:

Yes 2025 haha. Thank you. I had seen the address but I wasn't sure if there was somewhere to email/virtually submit it. Thanks!

Hello 1LT Le,
Naval Academy is holding a virtual summer seminar. Will West Point hold a virtual SLE?
