USMA appointment?

Is it possible that West Point is still making appointments for the class of 2026? I just got a letter and certificate from my MOC congratulating me on my appointment but the certificate is post-dated and R-day is literally hours away. I'm thinking this is an elaborate prank.

Let me correct a bit... I'm think this is either an elaborate prank (pulled off by one of my creative but somewhat demented friends) or a simple mistake by the MOC.

Contact your admissions team/regional commander to clarify the situation ASAP. Worst case scenario it’s all a misunderstanding, no harm done there. Best case scenario, welcome to the class of 26. There has been a case of a cadet candidate receiving their appointment a day before R-Day, even after getting rejected.

True indeed.

Let us know. The appointment letter would come from USMA, not your MOC at this late hour. I know it is a 3 day weekend but send an email to your FFR but also to your regional admissions officer and technician.

Stranger things have happened. A rejection letter followed by an appointment is not unheard of, but certainly rare. As recommended above, follow-up quickly. It's not too late to get ready for Beast.

A prank? Pretty elaborate and nasty if true. The envelope, letter, certificate, and postmark would take some time and research to pull off a convincing forgery.

It is most likely an administrative screw up in your MOC's office. Some MOC's send a congratulatory letter and a formal looking, but unofficial, certificate as a keepsake for an appointee - you won't be able to present it at R-Day and enter Beast. It is possible the MOC office inadvertently included your name on a list of intended recipients.

Call USMA admissions! There has been very late admissions in the past. Please let us know what you find out. I really hoping its true!

Entirely possible you were wait-listed without your knowledge and someone rejected a late appointment, thus opening a slot for you. A lot of states have a "decision day" in May, but USMA appoints all the way up until June, so it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility.

Thanks for the good energy. Going to have to write something about this journey someday. Haven't heard back from anyone at USMA - probably due to holiday. Will update when I hear anything. Good luck to those prepping for R-day! Hope to join you.

Let’s hope we hear good news today.
You will be too busy to write about your admissions journey.

Did you check your portal? It would have changed if you were offered admission. This late in the game I would think that admissions would have called as you would have many things to complete this week.

Ok, so I finally got some clarity. I was offered an appointment to USMAPS, not USMA. My Congressional citation is technically incorrect because it refers to an appointment to USMA. Rather than reporting to R-Day on June 27, I think I report for CCBT on July 11. Overall, I take this as good news. Still confused because I didn't think 3Q'd candidates were eligible for USMAPS. Also I thought that all USMAPS slots were filled, but maybe I was automatically waitlisted. I'm also told that a USMA appointment for class of 2027 is very likely if I perform as expected. Overall, I think is great news... right?

I do have to think about this a bit because I have a good setup already with the fall.

Also, just to respond to some comments: My USMA portal is set up for my 2027 application already so I don't see a way to access my 2026 application.

Yes this is great news. A year at USMAPS and then onto USMA....if that's what you want of course

Just to let everyone see what I got, here's a pic of the Congressional Certificate. All names redacted I hope.

That is awesome! I would not hesitate to accept....go there and do well and you will be a part of next years class. My daughter was cadre for ccbt and said what a big advantage the USMAPS kids have.
