So I was just wondering since so many posted branches from ROTC, How did Branch Night go for all the USMA cadets on this board?

    :thumb: Benning here I come!

From the stats we were given:

    80% got their first choice
95% were within their top five choices.
This is pretty good considering that a lot of aviation slots were cut at the last minute.

17(?) cadets also branched cyber for the first time ever.

My son got his first choice, Aviation. There were a lot of nervous cadets when the slots dropped to 88, but it was all worth it when he opened that envelope! He is very, very happy :)

Congratulations to your son, I bet he was excited.

I am sending you a PM (Personal Message), I'm not sure you are able to respond until you have a few more posts on the board.

I believe BOLC, or a 17A qualification course since the Army is accepting officers to transfer into the Cyber branch, is in the works at Ft Gordon, the new Cyber Center of Excellence and home to the Cyber School. Since it is still early for the branch, I'm not sure how much they are piggy-backing off the existing Signal BOLC.

Curious question for anyone at USMA who may know. These cadets that branched Cyber at USMA, did they (or do they) do any type of research or cyber academic stuff with the Cyber Institute at USMA? Wasn't sure if they've been focusing on cyber related stuff in the hopes of the branch being established or just decided to go for the new branch. Only curious since I've been reading a little about Cyber since I know nothing and saw that in addition to the Cyber branch standing up, they established the Army Cyber Institute at WP. Seems interesting

I hear that the Cyber Team has been very successful in competitions. I would venture that a lot of the cadets on it are interested in branching Cyber.

Can any of the 15 apply for the Junior Officer Cryptologic Career Program (JOCCP) at NSA?

I believe for the JOCCP you need to be a MI CPT...and preferably be KD complete. Details are in the MILPER message.

All I know was that preference was given for kids that were IT majors or otherwise very involved with the cyber program here

My 2018 cadet just mentioned that he's now interested in Air Defense Artillery (6 months ago he said Field Artillery). I realize he may change his mind again in the next two years, but out of curiosity, based on the numbers above, is ADA more competitive than FA or less competitive/desirable?
