USMA CFA Video Question

I've finished my CFA recently and had my PE teacher submit his form two days ago. On the portal I currently have a yellow "Pending" circle next to my Candidate Fitness Assessment, which I'm assuming is because it hasn't been reviewed yet. But when I scroll down to the Video section I see "CFA Video Instructions (Not available yet)". I've taken my videos and am ready to submit them. Where should they go, should I be concerned by my continued Pending status, and why is the Video Instructions pdf 'not available".

Please use the Upload Docs section of your candidate portal. It is the place to submit both videos.

From experience, you may see the videos acknowledged and turn green on your overview portal but the CFA will remain yellow (even though PE teacher submitted form) until the USMA reviewing party approves the videos. This can take several weeks depending on the review cycles and the time you submitted your videos. The sooner you upload, the better. Good luck!

There have also been some very recent posts on changing the video file format, as some file types may not be accepted.

Make sure your video files are sized small enough that you can upload them. I believe the portal does not allow uploads larger than 2MB (which is very difficult with videos). You might need to find a good resizing program for your videos if you recorded them with an iPhone or iPad.

My son applied to USMA last year. When he was doing his CFA, my husband accidentally did the push-ups video in slo-mo. It wasn’t too tough to convert it to regular speed, but the file was way too huge to upload due to the size limits. So we spent the better part of a day figuring out how to convert it to a smaller file, and then he could finally upload it. And then USMA said he had to redo the video anyway due to some push-up technique form issue. The second time he did the push-ups, we got the video done with an iPhone on normal speed, and it uploaded no problem.

I hope your experience is not as entertaining as ours was!

I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time but it sounds hilarious now. I didn't put my phone on airplane mode when filming ds do his pushups and got a text in the middle of it which paused the video. Doh! I had one job!! Nothing we could do about it in the middle of the test so he submitted what we had with a note that it was missing time in the middle. He got a message to redo the video within 48 hours. I remembered to put it on airplane mode this time!!

Yup! My husband felt awful—he said he only had one job and he messed it up! lol. It is fun to laugh about it now, but I remember how everything with that application last year was a struggle. It was worth it, though! 🙂

Uploaded my push up and pull up videos tonight. Recorded on my iPhone, each was bigger than the specified maximum of 150 MB, but when I tried to upload them, they each processed and ultimately said "successfully uploaded." Safe to assume my videos are good since they successfully uploaded, or should I find a way to format them to make them fall under the 150 MB limit?

“If ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.
You can always check with your RC or candidate technician and if they ask you to reload, then do as they say.
