My son applied to all the academies except the USMMA. For some unknown reason, he has never received any communication from the USMA. :frown: The other academies have either sent him mail, had alums call him, or given him some indication that his application is in the queue. Is silence SOP for the USMA? Or is it possible that they lost his application?

He received a nomination for USMA from the MOC, so I would expect that action alone should trigger something at USMA to match an application to a nomination. Maybe I'm wrong.

Anyone got any ideas about why the USMA is treating my son differently than the rest of the bunch? Who should he contact to find out if they indeed lost his paperwork?

Thanks guys!

Did he ever get his online sign on information with password etc? If not, I would call them up and inquire. How long ago did he send in his stuff?

He never received any online sign on information or password. It's like everything he submitted went into a black hole. He sent his stuff in early autumn. I don't know when for sure since I was working out of state.

I advised him to email the admissions folks and let them know of his concerns. Hopefully, if they answer email, he will know more soon. :frown:

I really think I would call on this one instead of e-mail. My D has e-mailed WP in the past. Sometimes with no reply others times with replies in several days. Our experience is that the phone is the way to go. Incidentally, the people in the office are very helpful and easy to talk to.

The good news is the nice lady at USMA answers her email promptly.

The strange news is she promised to mail his online sign on information. WTH? Why not just email it? Must be against regulations.

The password is secure information. I don't think secure information cannot be passed in regular email traffic.

The nice BGO lady in these parts called my son to tell him the new password for the USNA admissions status page. But then she isn't a power email user so it's hard to say if there is a difference between academies.

There are lots of reasons for glitches in the system. I found that the people in Admissions were always very responsive.

Good luck with the whole process. Remember to stare very hard at the mailbox. It doesn't necessarily make the mail come any sooner, but at least you'll feel like you're doing something. :shake:

My son got the new password ... via email. The original via snailmail.

I am not privy to a working USNA candidate online website, but my understanding is that the new passwords were promulgated on the website, which is secure. Should candidates miss the notice and get locked out, BGOs were instructed to assist with the new password. Maybe some of the BGOs were not aware that email is not secure.

Update

Lo and behold, in the mail today was a letter from USMA with basic candidate information. The letter contained the academy's candidate website logon and password, the name of his regional 'candidate technician', and the name of the local liaison officer. Here's the best part: the letter is dated March 15, 2006!

What's disconcerting is the letter arrived unsealed, with only a small strip of scotch tape on the flap. It was postmarked on 29 JAN though.

No other school that my son has been in contact with whether civilian or service academy has been as 'out to lunch' on timeliness of communication as USMA.
