USMA overnight worth it?

I have an appointment to USNA and an LOA to USMA that has all the conditions met (waiting for the official appointment). The last six months I’ve spent weighing my options, and though I think I’ve decided on USNA, something about USMA’s tradition and history is still nagging at the back of my head. Would it be worth it to travel out to NY for an overnight? I’m not sure if I should just press “accept” on my USNA portal or keep the question lingering in my mind. If anyone has insight I’d appreciate it!

If you are having any doubts about which to attend, you can’t really go wrong by doing the WP overnight.

Definitely do the overnight at both academies if you can, visiting USMA on an overnight sealed the deal for me. Visiting both will allow you to learn more about each academy's environment and see the tradition firsthand.

I think you might want to look at it from a different perspective. What do you want to do in the military? If you want to go infantry or armor, USMA, be in charge of a nuclear reactor, USNA, etc. The academy is only 4 years, it's what you want to do after for that 5 year, minimum, commitment.

This is the same conversation I had with my DD. I made her think about the path she was choosing and where she wants to go after graduation.

First of all, a big CONGRATS on both the appointment and LOA! YES without hesitation, if you have the financial means, GO! One of two things will happen...either you will affirm your USNA decision, or you will start picturing yourself in grey. You have have been given an exceptional opportunity of choice. Go experience West Point...no regrets!

@desertlover12 I'll also add... It's not just "the feeling" you get. It's what you will learn, first hand, about the learning opportunities and career paths while you are there. DS said that when he visited he learned so much more than what he did doing his own research online and in conversations with those connected with WP.

My DS had an LOA and an appointment to USNA and then he got his appointment to USMA, but said he was definitely leaning toward USNA. He did his overnight visit to USNA and loved it. Then he did his overnight visit to USMA. After spending a bit of time discerning and praying about it, he said USMA felt like home to him. He said he truly did not have a preference as to what he did in the military after the academy. I feel that if he had gone to USNA, he would have liked it. But, in the end, he really enjoyed USMA and had no regrets on his decision and he loves being an Army officer now. I agree with the idea of just going to see what feels right for you. You may always wonder "what if", so just go and check it out. Then if you still like USNA the best, you can accept it with no hesitation. Or, you could end up changing your mind like my DS did.
