USMA SLE 2018

Does anyone know when we find out whether we are accepted or rejected for SLE?

From what I've heard the acceptances are sent out over a period of a few weeks. I believe the first acceptances went out yesterday but if you haven't heard yet don't worry. They will still be notifying people through march and into April so be patient and keep your fingers crossed!!

@Usa1001 Thank you! One more thing, did you guys post decent standardized scores? (The only one I reported was a sort of low 26 ACT, which I do not feel confident with). I have retaken the ACT twice since and will be taking it for free at school next week, as well as the May SAT.

@prospective2019 Thanks so much! May I ask what state you are from (to see where others are applying from and competing)?

No problem. I am applying from CT-02, a fairly non-competitive district (but an overall competitive state). I applied the first day the application opened with a 32 ACT. If you’re curious I think you can find my stats on a thread I created a while back. Where are you from?

When I applied I hadn't taken the Sat yet so I posted my PSAT scores- 1350. but from looking on the website the average act scores of students accepted were between 26-30. So you are within the average, and the other parts of ur application obviously play a big role in your acceptance. If I were you I wouldn't worry too much about ur scores, a 26 on the ACT is generally considered really good. Good luck!

Thanks guys! I currently am applying from SC03 (pretty non-competitive as well). I know of many graduates, and my cousin is applying to USMA as well, although his father is an Admiral (he goes to SC Governors School for Math and Science). I feel as though I have a decent shot (NHS President next year, NJROTC Battalion XO, President of Leadership Academy, Student Council, and Orienteering and XC for sports). Even if I do not make SLE, I believe I can improve upon my WCS enough to earn an appointment next year! One more thing, I am a minority (gay) if that is even taken into account. @Usa1001 @prospective2019

I don’t think USMA takes sexuality into consideration at all, I don’t know how they even would. I have read that they have a surprisingly good support system, however. Good luck on SLE and keep us posted!

Thanks so much! It's sort of been an issue figuring it out and everything in high school, but I am glad to hear that! @prospective2019 Also, do you know how competitive nationally our class will be as of now?

Here’s the thread I read that you may be interested in:

I think it’s impossible to gauge at this point. It’s still super early, and I don’t think we’ll get an idea until we start to apply for nominations. However, I think I read somewhere that fewer students are applying to SA’s, but on the other hand the class size was just decreased for the Class of 2022 as well. It’s too early to tell.
