Quick question for someone in the know from USMA Admissions, a MALO, or other knowledgeable resource. Son #3 has expressed interest in USMA SLS. In looking at the application, it lists sports from grades 9-12. Since son is a junior, does he only put what he's completed, or does he add senior year sports, potential captaincies, awards, etc.? He's earned letters, all-district and all-conference awards for football, basketball and lacrosse as a sophomore/junior, but we obviously don't know about lacrosse this year or the rest of the sports he will likely play in his senior year. Was advising him to put only what has happened as of today, but I assume he will at least letter in FB, BB and Lax. Advice?

Not a MALO/FFR/Admissions rep, just a Dad who helped with this last year.

DS put three years of Football, 1 letter at the time, and 3 years of soccer, 3 letters, and 1 year of powerlifting, 1 letter. Then, later in the Summer, when the full portal opened up, and he had been elected Captain and was already in two-a-days for his senior season, he added the 4th year of Football, the 2nd letter, and the Team Captain.

We never went back and updated Soccer because it didn't start until January and he received his appointment about two weeks later. I didn't think he should assume the 4th year of soccer because he might get injured during football.

My opinion is that you should stick to three years of activities for SLE application. When the full portal opens up later, you have the opportunity to update before submitting the Candidate Activities Record, which is then verified by the counselor. After the counselor verifies, though, you usually have to have the counselor email any new updates.

Hope that helps.

+1 Sledge.

DS only put activities/awards he had participated in/received up to that date. Use actual ACT/SAT/PSAT scores, even if your DS plans to take them multiple times. Also, don't guess on class rank -- ask the high school counselor. Even if the school doesn't rank, the counselor can estimate it. My DS went to SLE last year.
