Hey I was wondering how likely it is of me getting in to USMAPS and if I’m required to take the SAT or ACT and if it would help me?

I am a junior in High school.

I was a team captain for three varsity sports, founder of a club, charter member of an organization, and first chair in wind ensemble. I have gotten many both educational and sports awards including rookie of the year, best team member, etc. I have an average of 3.7 GPA (I know it’s not super good).

I haven’t taken the SAT or ACT, I haven’t decided if I should take it yet because all of our practice tests are closed due to COVID.

Decision to grant USMAPS is taken by USMA and is dependent on your overall application. Based on posts here, most of USMAPS is for Prior Enlisted, Recruited Athletes. I am sure there are others who dont fall in these 2 categories.

USMAPS is strictly a decision made by Admissions. Their decisions is based on folks that would benefit from Prep School vs going directly to the Corps of Cadets. There are enlisted folks, but many civilians also. :wiggle:

I am most likely going to go the enlisted route. I am a junior in Highschool what time of year as a senior do I apply to the army, and where in your opinion should I do basic training? Army or national guard? Also how long will I be in the army or national guard before I apply again to west point?

You want to talk to the recruiters between Thanksgiving and Christmas in order to ensure you get the MOS (Military Operational Skill) and training dates you want.
Going active duty versus Guard/Reserve is a personal choice based upon where you are in your life. If you’re keen on going straight to college then Guard/Reserve is the route you want.
Now having said all of this, if college is potentially in your future knock out the SAT/ACT prior to graduating from high school. Study for them and do your best. Maybe even take them more than once. They won’t get easier after you graduate from high school.

TAKE THE ACT AND SAT!!! It is worth it. Plenty of practice tests and study books to purchase or for free online.

First, you shouldn't enlist with the expectation that you will be selected to attend MAPS (or other Service Academy Prep School). If you enlist, you should enter with the expectation that you will serve your entire enlistment in the MOS you select. If you hit the deck running, do well in Boot Camp and your first Command, and your Chain of Command recognizes your potential as a leader , you may get the opportunity to attend a Prep School.

The original intent of the Prep Schools was to provide pathway for exemplary enlisted troops (of all services) to attend a Service Academy. This still occurs to some extent, but it has also expanded to provide recruited athletes and promising civilian applicants an additional year of preparation so they have the tools necessary to succeed at the Service Academy. As indicated above, you don't APPLY or Request the Prep School, Admissions makes the determination and makes an offer for Prep School instead of a direct Appointment. (This applies to USNA; I suspect the others are similar).

For OP, you have some good tickets ... Depending on school and course load, a 3.7 won't take you out of the running. By all means, take the ACT and SAT. Apply ! The only certainty in the whole process is that 100% of those that don't apply will not get admitted to a Service Academy.

Good luck.
