If DS is being considered for USMAPS, when will this happen? There were four applicants in his high school to USMA and all have heard back. One LOA (undecided), one TWE, One Appointment (almost identical stats as my DS, but with Governor's recommendation), and my DS. His file was being looked at 2 weeks ago to see if he was 3Q, but has heard nothing since. I heard May 16 is when USMAPS offers will go out, most acceptance deadlines are May 1st.

I have no idea when they go out, but let's assume you're correct and it's May 16 (which I doubt, but...). You would accept an offer from another college and send in the deposit. If you get some positive feedback from USMAPS then you accept that and let the other college know your son will not be attending. Worse case you're out a few hundred bucks, which is small potatoes in the scheme of things IMHO.

If he does end up attending some civilian college and he has not received an AROTC scholarship, he should enroll in AROTC anyway.

I've heard this May 16 date several times. I would hope it's not true. He has Plan B, C, D, and F in the que. He has a 4 year AFROTC scholarship, but waiting on AROTC board results. Still waiting to hear back from other SAs.

Has he asked his RC if he is 3Q? Not all send letters, but most will tell him if he is or not. If he received a 4 year AFROTC scholarship then his stats are probably strong enough to be 3Q. If in fact he is, then USMAPS is not an option as these candidates are not qualified academically. However, an AOG appointment (year at civil prep sponsored by West Point) may be an option. If he has not done so already he may want to research the AOG option (lots of posts regarding it on forum) and then contact his RC to inquire about his status. If he would be interested in AOG option, does not hurt to mention that.

On March 16, his RC said it was going through qualification checks. I emailed him. Hopefully there's been some movement.

No reply from RC as of yet......

My son is at USMAPS this year. They will be be receiving their offers of appointment to USMA on May 14. It may be that this is why you have heard dates near the 14th mentioned. It is for those candidates who are currently at USMAPS and hope to receive an appointment to the Academy.
He received his USMAPS offer last year in early April.

Thank you Jtboiler! I just found out my DS is on the list for USMAPS depending on the number of slots they have this year. He could definitely use a year at USMAPS to strengthen his math skills.

DS received his appointment to USMAPS! I can finally relax and enjoy my son's last few months at home.
Congratulations to you and your son! My daughter is currently an AOG at civil prep and I truly believe she is much more mature and better prepared for West Point now than she would have been if she had received direct appointment. Enjoy the next few months :)

This is honestly the best avenue for him. I feel at peace knowing he will have this year to prepare and having his dad at WP for support will really help.
