I have been recruited for wrestling at West Point and just received a LOA for USMAPS. The Coach told me that I would most likely end up going to the prep school first, and honestly, I would rather have that year of transition into life as a cadet. Anyways... on to my question:

-Do athletes have to sign a letter of intent for their respective sport like they would if they were going to a regular college or to The Academy in general?

No. Service Academies do not have Letter of Intents. Even if someone signs one at their schools ceremonies they are just for show. There is not binding commitment to play your sport while at a SA.

As a former athlete at USNA, I can say the pre school is a great path for anyone wanting to go to a SA. As athlete is a great year to get better at time management, get stronger/faster while competing at a high level and getting used to the military lifestyle. Good luck.

My son is currently awaiting a medical waiver but has been recruited for wrestling as well. What weight are you looking to wrestle at there? and is your application process complete? This waiting is driving me crazy 51 days so far.
